Inexpensive Phono Cables Recommendations
At roughly 5 bucks a pair, the Petras are a REAL no-brainer :-)
Inexpensive Phono Cables Recommendations
I'm the guy quoted in the linked 6moons review above and while most of it is in the ancient history category, the Petra cables are still alive and well ... if you can find them. They are REALLY respectable ICs and come in the lengths you need and ...
Zu Omen Defs and Ice Amps?
Audiofeil, do you have problems reading? I said the Class D amps I HEARD sucked. Two of them. Both pretty favorably reviewed."If you believe all suck ..." I never said that. And I'm neither inexperienced nor ignorant. Stop being a jerk.
Zu Omen Defs and Ice Amps?
The Class D amps I've heard do indeed suck, but then I wasn't crazy about the Zu Omens either, which a friend owned for about a week. I imagine that the Zus and the Class D amps I've heard would be a marriage made in hell. Audiofeil probably sells...
Sonic difference bteween VPI hw 19 mk iv & VPI TNT
I had a HW-19 Mk III and then a TNT Mk II, both with ET-2 linear tracking arms. At the time (early '90s), I thought the TNT was a major improvement, but it's a little hard to remember the specifics.I since went with a pair of heavily modded idler-...
Gallo 3.1.....mapleshade or brightstar stands?
Templetech, actually the custom sand-filled stands that I had made for my Gallos LOOKED better than either, but neither they nor the Bright Stars offer the mass and damping/coupling that (I think) make all the difference.
Gallo 3.1.....mapleshade or brightstar stands?
The 4" thick maple stands Mapleshade used to sell for the Reference 3 and 3.1 are simply outstanding. They transformed my Ref 3s so totally that another Ref3 owning friend bought a pair immediately. They give the speakers a stronger, more authorit...
A $300-$400 turntable tweak
Dover, how did the graphite mat get the "grey scale" onto the cartridge? I've used a Boston Audio Mat 1 (graphite) for years without problems and the only one I'd replace it with is a Mat 2.
What the heck is "reverse polarity" ?
Hey, Grimace, aren't you glad you asked?:-)
Benz LPS Sounds Bad, Very Bad at 45 RPM
Funny about the copper platter. A friend of mine, who also owns the same Benz cart as yours, got a copper mat at an audio show. He had problems playing records on his turntable (Teres, with JMW 10.5 arm) after starting to use the mat. He could nev...
Benz LPS Sounds Bad, Very Bad at 45 RPM
What turntable? Did it sound bad with another cartridge, before you got the current Benz? Are you by any chance using one of those copper turntable mats?
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ?
All of the above, plus the fact that we have ears of varying accuracy.
A $300-$400 turntable tweak
Lespier, the peripheral ring I'm familiar with (a friend uses it) came with a mounting jig that centers the ring perfectly and then is removed before playing.
A $300-$400 turntable tweak
As with Doak up above, I seriously question the use of clamps and weights (never tried an outer ring and don't plan to). I used a VPI clamp on my TNT for years and one day tried one of those silly looking Ringmats without the clamp. I've abandoned...
Coincident Statement Phono Pre amp opinions
I tried to run a phono pre directly into my power amps once and was stunned to find how much my active preamp had been contributing. Sounded flat, bleached and generally blah without the active pre. If you do buy the phono pre, be sure to try it i...
