Using Test LP - curious observations Same experience with (1). The only arm/cart I own that would pass the HiFi News "torture tests" without buzzing is an ancient Empire 98 tonearm with no anti-skating provisions. The cart was a Stanton 881. VTF was 1.5g.
Oppo 83 SE having trouble with cd mat on blu-ray The 83SE won't even accommodate the superthin "Black Hole" mat from Herbie's. I tried it ... once.
Who makes a good or decent CD recorder? I have the predecessor to that TASCAM, a CD-RW700. It uses any kind of CDR blank, has been very reliable over the past 10 years, and produces disks that I cannot tell from the originals. Sometimes I think they sound BETTER than the originals.
Which companies deserve a star for Christmas And still ANOTHER vote for Aesthetix and Glenn Buckley.
Melody Gardot Live Outstanding singer. Wish she'd come out with a new recording.
Lenco and Garrard external ac power supply A PS Audio P300 doesn't do a thing for a Lenco either (had one, plugged the Lenco into it, no real difference). Too many negative stories about Jean? I've known him for almost a decade. and, yeah, he's opinionated and can come off as arrogant. I'd...
Lenco and Garrard external ac power supply When I had a VPI TNT Mk. II, I found that the SDS controller/regenerator was essential to optimizing its sonics. I figured it would be equally essential with the Nantais Lenco that replaced it (replaced in turn by another 2-arm Lenco). Turns out, ...
What was your first tweak? Way back in the dark ages, I read that tonearm damping was the coming thing in consumer audio. We just called it hi-fi. Must have been in the early 60s. I had an Empire turntable and arm, and the article I read said to get a paper clip, bend one e...
AC regenerator Believe the posts about PS Audio regenerators. I wouldn't be without one.
What do cartridge problems sound like? If this just started to happen, with the approach of winter and lower humidity, it could be a fairly extreme case of static electricity. A good room humidifier is a wise purchase in any event (unless you're in the tropics).
How to "break-in" new speakers?? Hevac 1 has the best answer. And anyone who says speakers don't become "unlistenable" during the break-in period has never heard Gallo Reference 3 and 3.1s after about 6 hours. If I hadn't known (from a friend) what to expect, I would have been co...
Pangea AC14 Review I have both AC-14 and AC-14SE cords and have experimented with reterminating them, though I think they're pretty good in stock form. All my AC-14s now have Furutech connecters (IEC and AC) on them and have moved up a couple of notches. The AC-14SE...
Speaker cable advice I was going to suggest Morrow cables :-)I still will, except to note that I've found that the more more individual strands, the better they sound. Seriously better. This applies both to speaker cables and ICs (haven't tried the power cords).
Can the copy sound better than the original? I've heard this via a couple of formats and despite the "It can't be happening" thought, there it is. In addition to CD-CDR comparisons, I've found that making a 2-track open reel dub of a 4-track original often sounds better to me.
Foam plugs for Proac Response 3.8? Off-topic, but if these are like my old Response 3 speakers, you need to keep an eye on the screws/bolts that secure the woofers. Mine tended to unscrew themselves periodically, which resulted in loose, flabby bass. Keep 'em tight, but not TOO tig... |
