The technics SL1200G is excellent for the price. I managed a comparison with a Rega 10, I preferred the direct drive. I did have a very expensive Vinyl set up with a Kuzma XL dc and 4pt arm which I had to sell due to moving house. The Technics ma...
Want to add vinyl to my system.
I can only but agree with mijostyn. I am a record collector from the 70s, have reduced my collection to around 1200 or so now. I would not bother with vinyl now if strarting from scratch. I had a superb vinyl setup, kuzma XLDC, 4pt, Atlas, Ypsil...
Why Purchase A CD Player or Transport ?
I used to think that CD was better than using a streamer having a playback designs SCAD player and this was the case for some years. However I built a dedicated 2 box computer/streamer following the audiophilestyle forum for advice. It took a whil...
Analog vs. digital
👍
Analog vs. digital
ha ha yes indeed $75000 and $16000 - crazy that we spend those amounts!!
Analog vs. digital
I had a $75 analog set up and my digital gear with diy streamer and commercial DAC (together $16) equalled, sometimes bettered, analogue. However LPs that were recorded in analogue eg 50s, 60s, 70s jazz were generally  preferred depending on the m...
If you want the utmost clarity from your CDs
The audio desk CD lathe is excellent.
Suggestions for a streamer only (I have a great DAC)
The innuos statement streamer I believe is very good, depending on your budget the Taiko SGM extreme is as good as it gets https://taikoaudio.com/taiko-2020/sgm-extreme-music-server/ I have also read good things about the Grimm audio streamer MU1...
If Steve Got You Last Week...
I don’t have Tidal or Qobuz to compare, I have been thinking about trialling one or the other to do a comparison.Others on Audiophile style, using a similar setup to myself, report local files generally sounding better than streamed services - eve...
If Steve Got You Last Week...
When people are talking about streaming here I assume they mean the likes of Tidal and Qobuz. I find streaming files I have ripped from CD and play from my diy streamer sound much better than when played from the CD player I had.
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
Thanks had not seen the TAS review. They were designed as an active speaker initially so I guess it makes sense that the active is generally preferable.Colloms seems particularly keen on Naim power amps - having used them for many years myself, I d...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
Thanks douglas_schroederHiFi Critic, a respected UK mag, did a comparison between the standard passive ATC 50 and the standard active 50 version.http://atcloudspeakers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/ATC_SCM50ASL_Review_Hi-Fi_Critic_Sept_19.pdfM ...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
Having various passive speakers for around 30 yrs I always remember being impressed by a casual listening experience with ATC 100s active. I was not getting the imaging and three dimensional projection, I had heard from the ATCs, with my own Isoba...
Tidal vs ATC
I have used active ATCs for about 15 years. The first pair a classic 50s then anniversary 50s - I now have a pair of the tower 100s with the anniversary amp packs I purchased as a special order, together with a C6 sub. I have not heard the Tidals....
Again the topic of weight of amps
Active speakers are a good way to save space.
