KT120 back to 6550 @kingpin75s I have heard the same thing as you on several amps, the 6550 sounded better. However, these amps were originally designed to run on 6550's and then modded to work with KT120's. Of the amps that were originally designed to work with KT...
Tube amp question So now we hear that the OP and one other member has had the same problem when running KT120's. The amp went into protection mode. I would think if it does that with KT120's...nothing good can happen when you roll in KT150's.
Tube amp question OP, I would ask Mr. Allen to confirm that there will be no damage to his transformers by running the KT150’s...and maybe have him put that in writing. While the amp may supply ’enough’ voltage for the KT150’s to work, as russ69 pointed out above, ...
Tube amp question @atmasphere While I agree with you that a tester that cannot properly test a KT150- shows the limits of the tester, ( BTW, yours- nor any Hickok- I am aware of can test these tubes--and your KT88 spec is no good for them) it also points to the fa...
Tube amp question @atmasphere If you place a KT150 on a tube tester, it will not get to spec unless 600 volts is available. As a result, there are few tube testers that can actually test this tube.
Tube amp question KT150's require 600 volts at the plate. If you are not able to supply that voltage, i cannot believe you would be getting the best SQ from this tube. Bigger question is whether the transformers on your amp will suffer?
Looking for new speakers Sabrina X or Totem Metal V2 Sabrina X is not an easy load for the amp.
From Benz to? @gakerty The Delos ( like all newer Lyra’s with the new angle technology) will sound bright and fatiguing in the treble if the set up is not 100% spot on. This is why we hear of folks leaving the Lyra line and naysaying their experience. IME, the...
From Benz to? No one has mentioned the Koetsu line. Their Urushi line and up would be a nice replacement for the LPS MR. I wanted more resolution when i went from a Benz, so the Lyra Kleos was the answer, albeit requiring a much much more precise set up than th...
Reasons not to freak out about tube supplies I'm still trying to figure out why he went and apparently spent big$$ on that large bottle of hand sanitizer...??
Looking for Blues with High Fidelity The new release by MoFi on their 'One Step' process from Muddy Water, 'Folk Singer' is probably the best sounding blues album I have heard. If you can source one, it is a great listen, not just for SQ, but for music as well. I would add to the CD...
How to make small room sound bigger The small room requires room treatments to sound good, which has been mentioned above. In a small room, listening in the near-field is basically a requirement. This will allow for the room to be less of a factor. Also, IME no small room can actual...
COMPARISON SONUS FABER AMATI VS IL CREMONESE. Craig, excellent write up!. When i listened to the Il Cremonese I was very impressed with their SQ. Although we did not do an AB with the Amati's that day, I would expect the results to eb as you posted. @ghdprentice Looking at your system roo...
What stereo equipment do respected musicians listen to? @dmyersmd That quote is very interesting, and not that surprising! Franco had a superb ear, IMO. The products that he designed have always greatly impressed not just myself, but also all of my musician friends.
REL T7x or T5x for Small Room OP, adding a second sub is going to be a bigger exercise in placement and set up than just one. You have to really dial in two subs to get them to work, and even though the REL's are simple enough to dial in when single, when you double up, it is ... |
