Matching solid state amps with tube based pre amps
I run a tube amp and a ss amp with my tube preamp ( not simultaneously). With the ss amp, the stage is slightly smaller ( due probably to the fact that the ss amp is a stereo amp and the tubes are mono blocks), but the SQ is excellent either way. ...
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
The question in my mind is where on the scale of importance is exact speed control vs. other issues that a turntable has to address. For example, does the ability to deal with spurious sonic energy matter more, or less? Certainly all parameters ma...
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
Agree. The fact that there are still folks willing to try and push the SOTA in high end vinyl is definitely something to be applauded. With the stand that goes along with the OMA, most designers will have an easier job integrating the package into...
Linn Sondek LP-12 tonearm recommendations?
Linn does indeed recommend an inside out approach when it comes to upgrading the table. Therefore, the arm is fairly low on the totem pole. However, I personally found that replacing my Linn Basik Plus with the WTA ’Black’ arm was one of the easie...
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
@mikelavigne You fall into the category of discriminating buyer who dismisses this table based on the ability of the competition. I question as to how many of these manufacturer’s really know who or what the competition is?...and more importantly ...
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
@lewm You make a very good point about the OMA being dismissed because it costs $360K! If the table was priced at say $20K or less, i would also question how many folks would still dismiss it? OTOH, the price asked is more than likely going to be ...
3 New UBER Decks - Is this Turntable's SwanSong? 🦢
Why is it that these digital vs analog arguments are so prevalent? IMHO, there is room for both formats. Each one has its own benefits and detriments. No wrong, no right. BUT I am very pleased that both are available. IME, Analog sounds better, bu...
3 New UBER Decks - Is this Turntable's SwanSong? 🦢
@noromance   LOL. There are quite a few folk who have similar listening rooms and gear set ups. There is one gent, who lives up the coast from me, he has built a separate building on his estate just to hold his system, which is even more extensive...
Linn Sondek- Origin Live upgrades anyone?
@jasonbourne52  If you get the opportunity to hear what the various upgrades have elicited over the many years since your LP12 was new, i highly recommend you do so. You may be surprised at how far the table has come since your vintage.
3 New UBER Decks - Is this Turntable's SwanSong? 🦢
@rauliruegas  You bring up a great point, why do LP manufacturers get away with providing what in many cases is a sub par product? The answer is what I think you touched on...because they can! I noticed on an email that was sent to me yesterday fr...
Linn Sondek- Origin Live upgrades anyone?
@jasonbourne52 Since you own a stock LP12 ( not sure what that is...presumably you mean a LP12 Majik version)... why would you not believe that the Akurate model and/or the Klimax model are not superior? There are significant upgrades that Linn ha...
Linn Sondek- Origin Live upgrades anyone?
Another thread wherein naysayers with no experience with the LP12 are happy to come on and put their 2 cents in! Mijostyn, maybe I should go on Sota Sapphire threads and post about how the Linn from this century can ’handily thump it’...even thoug...
Best upgrade path for an older but nicely maintained Linn LP12
@sondekmcintosh  Your LP12 should sell quickly, although I personally would not sell to go solely to Sonos, but like you said, to each their own. Depending on condition, your LP12 would probably get somewhere between $6k and $7K. You might want to...
Best upgrade path for an older but nicely maintained Linn LP12
@sondekmcintosh Firstly, the folks at Accent on Music are first class and truly know their stuff. Secondly, when you post about LP12’s these days..on just about any audio forum, you will get LP12 haters who really have absolutely no clue about the...
why do people think the LINN LP 12 is so superior to the Thorens (say 165 super)
@noromance   LOL! +1...Folks, mijostyn knows more about Linn LP12's than anyone on this forum. Particularly since he last owned one back in the 80's...if then!
