why do people think the LINN LP 12 is so superior to the Thorens (say 165 super)
Perhaps your friends are suggesting that you listen to a well spec’ed Linn from recent times ( NOT 30-40 years old, which is what the naysayers are referring to, and the last time that they MAYBE listened to, or owned, the LP12!) and decide for yo...
Record Cleaning Machines
I just finished demoing a Kirmuss machine. The Kirmuss method of adding a surfactant and multiple sweeps of the US was not something that I was particularly interested in doing. My a'phile friend who let me use the Kirmuss does use the Kirmuss met...
Speaker brands known to use first class internal components
Maybe a better question would be "well known brands known to use junk parts off the five and dime shelf". There are quite a few ’high end’ companies that do fall into this category, many that would surprise us!Whether these folks should be ’outted...
Favorite Platform for Linn LP12
I used to use a Townsend Seismc Sink under my LP12. With very nice results. However, once I added the Tramp 2, the combo of Tramp 2 and Seismic sink was too much and the SQ suffered. I do think that with Tramp 2 the platform beneath the table can ...
MY SONIC LAB Cartridges
tablejockey brings up a very interesting point. Why is a multi kilobuck cartridge using a cheap aluminum cantilever? One could ask another question, what does one really get for one’s money when you buy a multi kilobuck cartridge? I don’t believe ...
Record Cleaning Machines
@oldaudiophile You bring up some really good points. I agree with you, spending $3K on a single slot US cleaner is a real struggle. When the Degritter was out for its pre-sale testing with beta testers, I was under the impression that it was going...
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
Hmm, I have a choice to make here, i buy the OMA table at $360K or..I buy the Basis Transcendence at about a third the price...and IMO the Basis not only with give the new OMA a hell of a run for its money, but also probably beat the pants off it....

Their turnable in the new issue of Stereophile is $360K!! How this price comes even close to equating to this piece of gear totally baffles me!
Favorite Platform for Linn LP12
@no_regrets Nice. Symposium, as stated above, makes some great gear! Their racks have long been on my radar as a replacement should I move away from my current Sound Anchor. Great to hear their shelf works well under the little fruit box.
Yamaha RX-V4..any experience?
@auxinput   I currently own a receiver like you describe. The main power supply is certainly quite beefy, BUT the problem is that the various caps are placed without concern as to their heat propagation, which is what I find common on a lot of thi...
Yamaha RX-V4..any experience?
Thanks. I will be using the B&W 686's for the front channels, so i guess they should be ok with the Yammy power of 80watts/ch.
Favorite Platform for Linn LP12
@radiohead99   I would suggest sourcing a lightweight rack for the Linn. Something like a used Target audio, or other small like kind rack.
SF Amati vs Serafino
@mobiusmu  Sounds like you have an excellent room to place any speaker. Your current set up may rival the new Amati's. If you go with a larger speaker, i would definitely place them the same way you have the GT's. I would treat the room first and ...
Linn Sondek LP-12 tonearm recommendations?
Scot, nice suggestion. I have also heard good things about the AMG arms. They will be on my radar if i ever replace my WTA. ( hopefully they would be a step up??)@rbtstock While it is a fact that the make up of the table is going to impact what yo...
The Linn Karousel bearing.
It also depends on your power supply. if you have a Valhalla, then you would need to change that to at least a Lingo ( the Valhalla board is not sized to accommodate a Karousel). The sub chassis probably works if you already have a Cirkus fitted, ...
