Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
While the news about ARC going into receivership is not really a speaker forum subject, it does possibly connect to this thread. About a year or so ago, I was at an ARC dealers premier of their new Reference 80s amp. While I was there, the ARC re...

@onhwy61 You are correct. Which is why I said someone at the factory and closed their doors for good...I should have added..an authorized person.

@bigkidz You state that the only time one needs a schematic is when the part (pat sic) values are not marked. While this is correct, that occurrence is more than common, particularly it would seem on most typical high end gear. IMO, the more bout...

Looking at the creditor list, like many on this forum, I know several of these people/companies. Some come as a surprise, some not so much. Nonetheless, the one’s that come as a surprise to me are not one’s that most would think would ever be a cr...

@fsonicsmith1 Sorry to hear of your issues with ARC. I do remember in the WZJ days, the amps came with a schematic as part of the instruction manual. I started a thread about schematics and the varying co-operation of companies to supply them, or ...

@cd318  Quite a difference between Harbeth's and JBL L100's!! Presumably your sister was primarily into rock, which might explain the preference for JBL's.   @jl35  You ask a good question, how much do consumers in the very high price range for ...

@fsonicsmith1  while I agree that buying reliable KT 150’s can be a chore, there are some vendors who do sell them and they seem fine. I have had luck with Upscale audio, among others. Buying on eBay is not advised.

Maybe join this up to the receivership thread already running?

@fsonicsmith1 Going all- in with KT150’s was a mistake? IMO, this tube is pretty superior sounding ( depending on the circuit) to the older KT88’s, 6550’s and even the KT120’s. ARC was always looking for the way forward, which meant going to the ...

Hopefully, this is a Chapter 11 ( re-organization) vs. Chapter 7 ( full liquidation and closure). However, it certainly looks like the latter. Apparently there is a long list of un-paid creditors! With some luck, I am hoping that another entity w...

@curtdr  The question is not whether a marketing plan exists that banks on 'over pricing' gear to sell at the high end, but rather if it is possible that such a plan might ultimately cause buyer ' exhaustion'? Resulting in a major reduction in sal...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
@mijostyn If nothing else, your posts make me laugh, particularly after a hard day. So thanks for that. Get myself a decent turntable, like your Sota?? No thanks; if I’m going to step up in tables it’s going to be to the likes of a Basis Inspirat...

@prof   +1 Question is...do these guys even sell just a few a year?? Perhaps just selling one of the piece is enough???

The ‘Nautilus’ from B&W was indeed a statement piece, and if you ever heard it, it was definitely an eye-opener. If I remember, it also required multiple amps for each driver section, considerably driving up the price. Not sure how many were s...
