Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@phusis Personally, I would much rather hear a small speaker hampered by a large room and consequently sounding small; than a large speaker in too small a space- that totally overloads the room. YMMV.

@phusis   If you don't believe in fitting your speakers to your listening room, size-wise, you clearly have never heard a speaker that is too large for said space. There are numerous examples of less experienced a'philes trying to shoe horn a too ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
"Big speakers, Big problems" is probably true 90+% of the time; but not always. If one has the room, the ancillary gear and the set up expertise, then they will provide a sense of scale, which IME, small speakers cannot. BUT the question is what ...
SACD is VERY confusing
I recently added a stand alone DAC to my Esoteric DV60 Universal player. Before, I could play back SACD’s...through the DV-60. Now I cannot play these discs as SACD's. BUT, and here’s the thing, the improvement that the DAC made to the whole SQ is...
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
@soix Thanks. Looks like a good option. I suspected the Aurender would be brand specific.
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
@treynolds155 Thanks again. This is really good to know. It could open up a much larger number of potential streamers for me. I was leaning towards a Aurender, but was only considering their N200 and up as they have a coax output. Now the lower mo...

Or, you can optimize your system so that it works the best in whatever room you are working with. Instead of just plopping some over size speaker into a room and hoping it will work. Then you can 'just bang on rocks with sticks'!
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
@treynolds155 Thanks. That looks like a very good option if one is using a Aurender upstream.
SACD is VERY confusing
@tony1954   A good question. Possibly because the old factor of....greed, got the better of them. Cut off their nose to spite their face! Not the first time a large company( ies) have done this...and won't be the last.
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
If you place a great sounding streamer with a marginal DAC, you will not be that happy, OTOH, if you place a great sounding DAC with a marginal streamer, this will still be very satisfying. At the highest level, it all matters, but my ratio still ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@kennymacc  Your room is definitely on the small size, like mine. OTOH, I don't think that your Revel's qualify as large speakers. They are, at least to me, mid size. When I am talking of large speakers, I am thinking of the likes of Wilson Alexx'...
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
@vthokie83   Agree that the quality of the streamer is important. Although, IME the ability and quality of the DAC is actually a lot more important. Seems to be about 20% for the streamer and 80% for the DAC.
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@kennymacc   You put your 'big' speaker in a small room ( or a room that is not synergistic with this speaker) and see if it gets you what you state---- top-to-bottom "BASS'", Dynamics, Slam and Impact!  Then tell us they are the best way to have...
YG's Sonja 3.3
The one thing that seems to be a consistent issue with YG’s, is their reliance and need for amplifiers that are basically ss brutes. Tubes probably need not apply. Not sure why YG’s are such bears to drive, but one has to remember this if you are ...
Coax SP/DIF to USB..thoughts?
@ghdprentice   I think what you said makes a lot of sense. What connection and cable do you use from your Aurender? I believe your model has the option of all three connections, AES, Coax or USB. I would think the AES or Coax would sound better th...
