To preamp or not to preamp. That is the question.
You’re running a Forte 4a? Well good for you! I had a pair of them in monoblocks. Or were those the 7a’s. Can’t remember. Anyway they were great running ML’s!
Primaluna or not Primaluna
All of these swaps and comparisons. This hobby is endless. But I’m done purchasing tube amps. And that’s a blessing. One is enough.
Primaluna or not Primaluna
@simna , You’re all set then! Another benefit of the PL’s is they’re auto bias, which is a big plus. Best affordable tube amps without a doubt!
Primaluna or not Primaluna
@immatthewj , I found mine on eBay out of the UK. $220 for 4. Brand new in the box. Clean living?
Primaluna or not Primaluna
Buy the PL, and call it a day. I mean, we’re talking EIGHT EL 34’a  I’m in heaven with 4. I can’t imagine 8 of them! Winged C Soviets is all you need. Trust me.
5 Dumb Things Audiophiles Believes.
Many audiophile’s don’t want real advice. He’s not arrogant at all. You only perceive him as arrogant because your ears, and mind, are closed. He’s only stating common sense. And how many actually purchase a new component as a system fix, myself i...
Most economical way to ship large speakers?
Definitely ground freight. They go on their own individual crate that way.
different people may hear the same sound differently...
People hear differently. Duh.
Phono Stage Upgrade
If you’re spending more than $3k for a used BAT VK10SE you’re simply throwing your money away.
Why does rock concert sound suck?
Uh, because it’s rock. It’s not like you’re recording the beautiful ambiance of a jazz club. I’ve never heard a live rock album that sounded good. Truth.
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
BAT preamps are my reference. I’ve had 5 of them, and never had a bad one. I appreciate the “color” of a BAT. Same with a Threshold T2 and T3 Preamps. Old school I know, but they were very good products. I’m stuck in the past.
What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had?
Both the Coda 01p, $450 used, and the Threshold T3, $750 used. Exceptional Class A components and exceptional preamplifiers that can bring you 35 years of Audio joy. Tough to top.
Its not vinyl
Yes, you’re absolutely correct. Make your digital as good as it can be, and be happy with that. Digital will never possess that something special that vinyl has. And that’s okay.
Analog Upgrade itch
Modern Jazz? C’mon, there’s nothing like the Classic’s. It’s all been done already, and the great stuff is on wax.
One turntable with two arms, or two turntables with one each - which would you prefer?
7 turntables. Gulp!
