Questionable service at Soundsmith
I sent them a cartridge 9 months ago and haven't heard a peep.  I made an email inquiry about a month ago with no response.  I've heard they take a long time, so I figured 6 months.  Fortunately, I don't need the cartridge right now.
Best Equipment Stand
While I agree that wall shelves are not a panacea and walls do vibrate, it is far less than a springy floor.  The only other thing you might try is to brace the back of the rack against the rear wall with some sort of spacers that could possibly p...
Best Equipment Stand
I don't think any rack is going to solve a springy floor problem.  Put the table on a wall shelf.
Patricia Barber, Cafe Blue "un-mastered"
True, jafant.  Likewise, "historic" does not always equal better.
Have you gotten great sound in a small er room?
I've gotten what I consider to be very good sound in a smaller room, but I have found that I had to try several different speakers, as some just wouldn't work, I believe due to bass cancellation.  As everyone with a small room knows, the placement...
Does dry-brushing really do anything...
IMO, it's more of a ritual than a necessity.  I agree that the type of dust it removes does not affect the playability, although I'm sure Doug Deacon would disagree.  Of course it is possible that a piece of crap somehow got onto the record that t...
New Luxman DA-06 doesnt sound so great. Will it get better?
No direct experience with Luxman, but IMO, all digital takes some time to open up.  Assuming it has no tubes, I would not shut it off at all, unless I were going on vacation.  I would say give it a month and just live with it.  I have gone through...
Which CD\SACD?
I've never heard the Oppo, modded or unmodded, described as "rich".
Is it all worth it?
They knew how to make speakers a long time ago, so it's no surprise that you like those monitors.  I remember the old 15" Altec coaxial studio monitors were great, as were the old JBL Paragons and others.  One of the reasons I like my Trenner &...
Is it all worth it?
makes sense to me.  People go for hyper detail when they audition components, but it becomes tiresome when you get it home.  After a while, you just want something more comfortable to listen to.
Why would anyone want 180g records ?
When I got back into vinyl in about 2005, after a 20 year hiatus, I was initially very impressed with the heavier vinyl pressings.  But after a few years of purchasing many mint used records of all thicknesses, I heard no correlation between thick...
Support for Linn digital streamers from dealer network on used equipment
good question.  There are some people here who are familiar with the Linn streamers.  I suggest you reach out to them in a separate post and I'm sure they'll give you some help. Good luck.
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
I've heard very good things about that company.  The home audition is very prudent.  Leave it on for at least 24 hours before doing any serious listening.
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
I think we're getting a bit off topic here.  I agree with what most of you are saying in principle.  I don't think there is anyone who would disagree that the best way to audition any component is in your home system.  But that's not always possib...

I have to concede that trusting your ears is not enough.  Unless you have ears you can trust.
