Why would anyone want 180g records ?
When I got back into vinyl in about 2005, after a 20 year hiatus, I was initially very impressed with the heavier vinyl pressings.  But after a few years of purchasing many mint used records of all thicknesses, I heard no correlation between thick...
Support for Linn digital streamers from dealer network on used equipment
good question.  There are some people here who are familiar with the Linn streamers.  I suggest you reach out to them in a separate post and I'm sure they'll give you some help. Good luck.
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
I've heard very good things about that company.  The home audition is very prudent.  Leave it on for at least 24 hours before doing any serious listening.
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
I think we're getting a bit off topic here.  I agree with what most of you are saying in principle.  I don't think there is anyone who would disagree that the best way to audition any component is in your home system.  But that's not always possib...

I have to concede that trusting your ears is not enough.  Unless you have ears you can trust.
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
I cannot tell you how many posts I've seen in which the person is looking for a DAC with a certain chip or a speaker with a first-order crossover, or a diamond tweeter or whatever.  IMO, it all doesn't mean a damn thing. It's how the product works...

If you want to make an educated decision, buy a dac based on sound and not specs.  For your purposes upsampling is when the sample rates are multiplied in hopes of improving the sound.  There are excellent products that use these techniques and ot...
High frequency distortion?
what exactly do you mean by distortion?  People use that word differently. Do you mean harshness, mistracking, breakup of the sound?  It can't be diagnosed without more specifics, IMO.  But - the usual suspects are too light a tracking force, dirt...
Upgrade Linn LP 12 or buy new table
Why do you assume you have to spend 4K on upgrades.  The linn sounds very good without any of the new additions.  However, you will have to get it set up properly and you might need a few small parts like springs, which are cheap.  No matter what ...
Kimber Kable Select
Emojo, your motives may well be honest, but there is a lot of fraud in this and every other aspect of internet (and non-internet) dealings. It is not uncommon for someone to come around saying "I’ve just come into possession of a Linn CD12 (20K) a...
Kimber Kable Select
Sorry, but this doesn't sound right.  Anybody can throw Kimber Select into Google and find out a ton about them and how much they cost.  When somebody comes around in this day and age acting like a babe in the woods, your suspicions should definit...
Onzow Zero Dust - cleaning the cleaner
I also use Dawn, but I employ an old shaving brush that I use to clean my eyeglasses.  I think the ZD is a good thing for taking the dust blobs off the stylus before brushing it with your expensive liquid stylus cleaner and getting it full of lint.
Do you think audiophiles are the most gullible hobbyists
I don't know about audiophiles, but car wax enthusiasts are certainly up there.  There are numerous waxes selling for thousands of dollars for one jar and the better "enthusiast" waxes go for a couple hundred for a jar.  I don't want to say these ...
How important are speaker cables to the sound emanating from the speakers?
Peter Aczel from Audio Critic did an issue on speaker cables, showing that the resistance, capacitance and inductance of a cable, in combination with the electrical characteristics of the amplifier and speakers, can have very large effects on freq...
What turntable would be great for techno/ electronic music?
Techno hardly qualifies as new music, but anyway, if you're new to turntables, I would vote for a Rega with a Rega cartridge.  Easy to set up, nothing to adjust or worry about.  As to MM or MC carts, you need to do a bit of research on the propose...
