OK time for Christmas Music "Acoustic Christmas" David Grisman.
plauged by off center image, am I insane? I have slight hearing loss in the right ear so everthing obviously images slightly to the left of center.
Why do mass marketed CD's sound so crappy? Upside is my wife has practically stopped listening to country western music as the production quality of most artists is abysmal. She's moved closer to blues, jazz and celtic.
why doesn't everyone own a pair of spica's??? The company being out of business for several years is a deterent as no replacement parts are available. It is a wonderful speaker, especially modded. There are competitors for that kind of money.
best wife friendly monitor? Totem Arros are very clean and have a small footprint with no stands required.
Giantkiller components Used: Speaks; ATC SCM 7, Int. amp; Onix (British) A-60, CD; CEC, cables; LAT International or Signal Cable.
Poor student with a SL-1700MK2, which needle? Needledoctor.com has your answers.
Speakers for vocalists ATC SCM 12 or any of the other ATC speakers.
Executive System like JVC EX-A1 Different category, but I travel with an Onkyo executive system ($250) which I run with Chord Carnival wire and Totem Mite speakers on 24" stands. It sounds very respectable for the money invested.
Best speakers for Opera. Rogers LS3/5As are still one of the very best for voice reproduction. They were specifically designed and voiced for the human voice. And yes, I know they are not $3,000.
luxman lv105u amp Try hifimanuals.com. This is a very decent amplifier and worth changing the tubes out. They come with I believe Chinese and the performance improves dramatically from openess of vocals to a much more solid bottom end. Enjoy.
FM Antenna basic questions I own both the Fanfare and C. Crane Reflect. Omnidirectionally the Fanfare is best, but the Relect ($25) will outperform the Fanfare unidirectionally and by a fair margin. Any amplified antenna I've played with was terrible. Good luck.
ipod/itunes problems iPOD, schmiPOD. People have lost their ears. I delight in loaning friends 25 year old pieces of gear, usually amplifiers but sometimes speakers and embarrassing their new toys. The iPOD has a place to be sure, it's just not for critical listening....
Amp suggestions for audiophile virgin Luxman 491 integrated (90wpc) with tube pre and SS amp. Phono included, this is a very good product for around $400 used. Replace the stock tubes if so inclined and improve dramatically the quickness, bass response and imaging. |
