Catridge Suggestion for Audio Research PH-5 Have you considered getting a step-up transformer?
12" Tonearm What Have You Heard & Recommend? VPI JMW-12 on an Aries 1 Extended. It's a very nice arm with VTA on-the-fly. Easy set-up and operation. Used it with an AT-OC9ML and Clavis da Capo. Very satisfied.
Best Customer Service I had an ARC preamp. Would not give them the nod for customer service. Would not buy ARC gear again. YMMV.
Best Customer Service I second VPI. Great service. And add Herron Audio to the list of companies with excellent customer service.
Does 21g seem high for effective tonearm mass? IMO, the classification of low, medium and high mass arms seems a bit arbitrary. The goal should be to match a given cartridge compliance with the effective arm mass. Plenty of calculators around to help in matching.
Does 21g seem high for effective tonearm mass? The Jelco headshell is a perfect candidate for the drill. A lot of mass can be removed without impacting the rigidity by drilling holes. I can't remember the drill pattern or how much mass was removed, but IIRC, there were a couple of people on vi...
Valve phono or valve linestage? That may be. I know Keith Herron, Herron Audio, has at least one dealer in Australia. He makes a top drawer tube phono stage that seems to integrate pretty well with either solid state or tube pre-amps. Likewise, he makes an excellent tube pre-amp...
Valve phono or valve linestage? It's really hard to answer your question. If there is a difference, it might be related to either (sub-)component or both together. In making the call as to which component should be tubes, it would seem logical to test a number of different combi...
Preamp, Amp, Subwoofer How many pre-amp outs (to the amps) are on your preamp?
Cartridge for VPI Classic 3? There are quite a few people that like the Sound Smith VPI Zephyr. It was designed for the VPI unipivot arms.A sleeper cart that some feel provides very good performance is the AT-33PTG (not available through U.S. importers but available on eBay f...
denon dl 103 w/ origin live silver mk II: help I'm probably sticking my neck out a little, but what you describe is what I usually hear when silver wire is somewhere in the signal path. At least that has been my experience. YMMV.
Cartridge opinions: New stylus, or new cart? There are a lot of comments on vinylasylum related to the 33PTG that might be useful.
Cartridge opinions: New stylus, or new cart? If you are considering a 33EV, have you also considered a 33PTG? Still available on eBay from some Japanese and Hong Kong dealers ($490 or so from 2juki). The PTG takes the AT-33 to another level of performance. It's a reasonably good match to the...
What is the best vintage TT for new audiophile? I have owned several entry-level tables in the course of my fifty plus years as a music lover. My opinion is that the VPI HW-19 III or IV is hands down the very best "entry level" table (especially the IV!) and it outperforms many more costly offe...
What is approx. percentage of your total I've got a couple thousand records, probably listen to 200 from time to time, maybe 50 on and off, 20 get the most action. Record collection is split abuot 50% classical, 40% rock (mostly classic rock) and 10% other. 99%+ of my listening is to cla... |
