Disclosure: I own an Aries 1 Extended with a JMW-12. Also own a HW-19 III / Premier FT3 and a "re-plinthed" TNT-1 / Jelco SA-750D. I own a MS MA-505 arm. A bit long and rambling....The Aries 1 is a VERY GOOD table, if you can find one. It will res...
Moving VPI TNT, Wheaton Triplanar, Transfiguration
I recently moved an Aries from its previous owner to its new home in my listening room. I have to echo Frogman's process which is the same as I used. In addition, my suggestion is to remove the arm and transport it separately. I don't know what ki...
Acceptable level of hum at max volume?
Why are you listening at max volume? Is that the setting you usually use for for listening? If not, how about just checking hum at normal listening levels?
Forced to Downsize
How small is small?
Rega RP3 or Pro-ject Expression III?
Why not go for a used VPI HW-19 III? IMO, much better than the Rega or Pro-ject.
Cartridge for Rega
How about having it retipped / rebuilt by SoundSmith?
VPI Scout
Have you tried calling VPI for information? I have found them typically very helpful with great customer service.
Turntable recommendation

Audiotechnica OC9MLII High, Low or Med Compliance?
I've had good results hanging an OC9ml/1 on medium mass arms including a Linn Basik LVX, a Premier FT-3 and also a higher mass VPI JMW-12.
Cleaning fluid on the cheep
I agree that steam / distilled water is the ideal rinse. Steam is another source for distilled water. It gets applied without a brush or other applicator so there's nothing to contaminate the clean water. For actual cleaning, I use the DiscDoctor ...
Cleaning fluid on the cheep
BTW, my personal rule of thumb is to NEVER, EVER, UPON RISK OF A RUINED RECORD use alcohol to clean records. IIRC rubbing alcohol (ethanol) dissolves some of the chemical softeners and / or other chemical components in the vinyl mix. Alcohol is no...
Cleaning fluid on the cheep
Use diswashing liquid in water. Scrub well. Rinse at least twice; first with tap water to remove as much of the cleaning fluid as possible; second rinse with distilled water to finish the job.
Denon 103 vs 103r opinions - Sonic Differences
How does the retipped 103R compare with a stock OC9ML II or III?
Should I upgrade to a Manley Chinook phono pre-amp
You might just want to call Keith Herron. It's hard to tell what he might have laying around.
