Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing Great for the Classic bearing. How about a TNT1 or an Aries1? Same lubricant on a different design? (I don't have a manual for either.)
Cart for Aries 1 with JMW-12 Good news. The OC9 has come back after a couple of hours of use. I guess it was just stiff from sitting around. Sounds nice even though it seems a bit dark and unrefined compared to the Lyra. I will consider the Zephyr and 20x2 when the OC9 decide...
Practicality of footers to isolate turntables. I have had very good success using vibrapods to isolate motor noise on both VPI TNT and Aries motors. At the price, it's worth a try. YMMV. I'm using StillPoints (3 of them) under my Aries 1 extended. Got them from the previous owner who explained...
Which cartridge do you use with the vpi classic? I've heard it with an AT OC9. Didn't hear any weaknesses. VPI Classic and the OC9 made a very good combination.
VPI Service - I'm impressed Called in yesterday to get a mounting jig for a JMW 12. Had a very pleasant conversation with Matt. Jig is in the mail. Customer service is all about exceeding customer expectations. VPI understands and executes. This is getting rare with high-end...
Stand out phono stages I heard the following system yesterday: Herron VTPH-2, Herron VTSP-3a, Herron M-1, Herron speakers, VPI Classic 2 and AT-OC9MLII. I have heard nothing better, nothing that even approaches this set-up. Not even close. I can't say that the VTPH-2 ma...
Audio Physic Virgo vs Virgo IIs I have been lead to believe that the tweeters are different.
Nude Turntable Project Halcro, Thanks for that amazing review. It leaves no question in my mind as to and performance detail.
Subwoofer with good monitors It can be very difficult to integrate an aftermarket subwoofer. Timing and phase mean a lot and weaknesses in either work their way into higher frequencies. I have a pair of DIY sealed box subwoofers that give me in-room response down to 10hz or l...
tube phono stage upgrade If you can find one, IMO the Herron VTPH-1 will smoke anything else in that price range new or used.
Nude Turntable Project Pods look great! Excellent multi-arm set-up. Very kewl. Could you post what carts are being used on which arms? Do you have a "modern LOMC" on one of the arms for comparison to the mm/mi carts?
Classical music for newbie There are some good Reader's Digest collections. Shoot for stereo. Some of my favorite collections include "Festival of Light Classics," "Music of the World's Great Composers," and "Treasury of Great Music." Most of the recordings used very good c...
Best TT and cartridge combo used under $1500? I agree with the system described by Grinnell. As an alternative to the V15, depending on the rest of the system, an AT-OC9MLII (if the preamp can handle the low output) or an AT-150MLX if the system not capable of handling mc carts.
Jelco SA750 D optimal cartridge alignement According to the alignment calculator on VinylEngine, the Jelco recommended geometry puts the null points about an inch in from the outer adge and then just before the inner runout grooves. There are other geometries that will work with minimum ch...
Nude Turntable Project Yes, Jelco made the AQ and Sumiko arms. I have an FT-3 and it was pretty good once I applied the arm wrap from the Sumiko Analog Survival Kit. Works quite well with an AT-OC9ML. |
