VPI Platter Spinning SLOWLY Belt slipping?
is it safe to clean records with isopropanol ? After reading "a very long primer on record..." I still question why isopropyl alcohol is used at all to clean records. Seems like the more effective process is to use a soap and water solution followed by a good rinse with high-purity distilled w...
is it safe to clean records with isopropanol ? I used to use vodka for cleaning, but I always woke up in a fog. What went into my mouth as a clear liquid came out of my eyes with a distinctive red tint.
is it safe to clean records with isopropanol ? Actually, the long-chain soaps and detergents that are also surfactants would do a better job of removing the longer chain oil-based contaminants. Further, those same surfactants are more highly soluble and should rinse at least as well if not bet...
Cartridge for VPI HW-19 MK-III with Rega RB300 I had really good sound with an AT-OC9ML on a -19 III with a Premier FT-3 arm. Other possible options for the RB-300 might include a Denon 103R and an AT-33EV. All of these options would also require a step-up transformer, but that would fit in yo...
A Very Long Primer on Record Cleaning Fluids I have heard second-hand that the "mold release" is actually blended into the vinyl and not a surface application to the mold. Would be nice to get a definitive answer since that would seem to have a direct bearing on the chemical requirements for...
is it safe to clean records with isopropanol ? So what does isopropyl alcohol do that a mild soap / detergent solution doesn't? When I want to remove grease, dirt, slime, residues and other contaminants, I use soap and water and rinse with clean water. What does alcohol do better.
Catridge Suggestion for Audio Research PH-5 Like anything in the signal path, there is a chance of degradation. The better quality transformers are quite good. Dynavector is supposed to make a very good quality transformer but I have no personal experience with it. Just read others' opinions.
Catridge Suggestion for Audio Research PH-5 Have you considered getting a step-up transformer?
12" Tonearm What Have You Heard & Recommend? VPI JMW-12 on an Aries 1 Extended. It's a very nice arm with VTA on-the-fly. Easy set-up and operation. Used it with an AT-OC9ML and Clavis da Capo. Very satisfied.
Best Customer Service I had an ARC preamp. Would not give them the nod for customer service. Would not buy ARC gear again. YMMV.
Best Customer Service I second VPI. Great service. And add Herron Audio to the list of companies with excellent customer service.
Does 21g seem high for effective tonearm mass? IMO, the classification of low, medium and high mass arms seems a bit arbitrary. The goal should be to match a given cartridge compliance with the effective arm mass. Plenty of calculators around to help in matching.
Does 21g seem high for effective tonearm mass? The Jelco headshell is a perfect candidate for the drill. A lot of mass can be removed without impacting the rigidity by drilling holes. I can't remember the drill pattern or how much mass was removed, but IIRC, there were a couple of people on vi...
Valve phono or valve linestage? That may be. I know Keith Herron, Herron Audio, has at least one dealer in Australia. He makes a top drawer tube phono stage that seems to integrate pretty well with either solid state or tube pre-amps. Likewise, he makes an excellent tube pre-amp... |
