Which tonearm for vintage Micro Seiki BL-91
A MA-505 is a very good arm. Very musical. My only comment is that it's a bit dark. But that also makes it lush and involving. There is a complete owner's manual collection on vinylengine dot com in their tonearm section. There is a detailed break...
Which tonearm for vintage Micro Seiki BL-91
The 505 is a very good arm. IMO, a bit dark, but very warm, damp and lush. In comparison to a Jelco SA-750D that I had also mounted on the same table, the 505 pretty much beat it in every category I can recall. And the 750D is no slouch arm. Carts...
Best used turntable/arm combo for under $7,500.00
Have you spent any time listening to an original VPI Aries?
Which tonearm for vintage Micro Seiki BL-91
The MA-505 should provide a very good level of performance. I was very please with mine (on a modified TNT) before I switched to a VPI JMW-12 (on an Aries 1 extended).

Roscoeiii, based on your experience, what has been your experience? What cart did you send for repair? What option(s) did you select? What were the results?
Upgrade Superscoutmaster or Buy Classic 3?
I agree with getting rid of the gingko. If the table is using belt drive, consider three Still Points under the table, four Vibrapods under the motor. If using rim drive, get a good shelf system and place the motor / drive assembly on a separate s...

I wonder if Sound Smith can warm up a Lyra Clavis da Capo without losing its ability to dig out details, soundstage and imaging. Keep the refinement but warm it up...
High quality AC turntable motor
By lowering the voltage on an AC synchronous motor, the "pulsing" is not as strong allowing the inertia of the platter to better smooth the jitter. That's why the VPI SDS is so effective. It uses full voltage to help get the platter moving, then d...
Twisting wire on VPI for anti skate?
I've got an original JMW-12 and don't use / need any anti-skate. The sound is better without the twisted lead wire or any other outward pressure on the arm. BTW, it has been my experience that ANY pressure from the lead wire will also change the a...
Upgrade Superscoutmaster or Buy Classic 3?
My suggestion would be to first do the platter. After the platter is complete, then the rim drive since you won't have to fiddle around with the rim drive set-up more than once (it's not really much of a pain, but still...). Then do the new arm. I...
High quality AC turntable motor
It would also seem that the manufacturer has taken phase into consideration in the manufacturer of the motor. If it runs from a wall socket, then it should be a matter of adjusting the voltage and alternating speed.
Upgrade Superscoutmaster or Buy Classic 3?
If you're just thinking of selling your table and getting a Classic 3, then that's the route to take. But if you're really interested in performance, then upgrade the SSM.

Or just go to Sound Smith and have the work performed by them.
High quality AC turntable motor
You might try to borrow a VPI SDS to see if you can adjust the voltage down after start-up to help reduce the vibration.
Entry Level MC Recommendations?
At the entry level for moving carts, you could end up with either a thin aggressive sound, or a large and possibly unpleasant departure from what you're used to. Given your budget, it might make more sense to send the cart back to Soundsmith and l...
