Why is it that?
If you get a used Herron VTSP-1mc, it would end your concerns and you will get significantly better performance.
Phonostage with dual inputs?
On a different forum, someone recently mentioned an ARC MCP-2 (IIRC) that has multiple inputs and flexible loading options.
Phonostage with dual inputs?
The Herron VTPH-2 has mm and mc inputs, but breaks the $500 price point.
New VPI 3D Arm
If the arm effective mass is changing, that alone could account for significant differences in sound. Arm tube material aside, the cartridge will obviously just work differently. Not sure if / when I will pop for a 3D to replace my ancient JMW-12 ...
Low frequency problem while playing vinyl
Dirty bearings? Warped records? London recording of Tales of Czar Saltan?
VPI Hw-19 Jr. Thoughts?
I have a HW-19 III and there is no comparison between it and a Jr. The Jr. is really an entry level table, the 19 III is a huge step up. Pretty much everything is different except the motor and outer frame.I've seen several Jr.s for sale on eBay t...
VPI Aries/JMW 10/Lyra Delos -- Phono preamp rec?
Call Keith Herron at Herron Audio ( www.herronaudio.com ) and see if he has any used VTPH-1 phono stages available. They are a great match for Lyra carts. IMO, a used VTPH-1 would be the absolute best bang for the buck at your price point.
vpi JMW arm lengths
When you call VPI, make sure you have the exact model of arm wand and the base(s) on which you intend to mount such arm wand.
vpi JMW arm lengths
I think different generations of JMW arms sometimes use a different pivot structure. I don't think my original JMW-12 would fit on a modern base. Or at least so I've been told.
Acrylic platter
Oh, I don't know. Seems to me that the acrylic platters from VPI don't measure up to the aluminum ones on the Classic. But it's your decision, you just seemed to ask for opinions.
Burn in Step up transformer with ipod.
Wouldn't the load at the input side be impacted by the load at the output side?
Burn in Step up transformer with ipod.
Don't forget to load the transformer outputs. A 47k resistor across each output should work OK.
VPI owners.......
@Frogman Did you need to send the table back or just the platter and bearing? (Just curious)
Similar sounding of Lyra cartridge ?
It's very hard to make that call not knowing which Lyra cartridge you are describing. The Lyra Clavis da Capo was a bright and a bit thin sounding cartridge, nothing like the cartridges described above. Other Lyra carts of that general vintage are...
Am I totally nuts or just a bit off?
You're probably not completely nuts, but then you are into vinyl so that's a big step toward the brink. :) What you're listening to probably was not recorded using the standard RIAA equalization, but most likely a different EQ. That makes for a di...
