Phono Preamp and Cartridge selection
IMO, if you can spend a few dollars more, the Herron VTPH-2 will probably be the last phono stage you'll need. It is sonically as good as it VTPH-2 does not sound like tubes or solid state. It doesn't "sound" at all. It is just transparent to the ...
What's the best way to clean vinyl records?
I've used Miracle Record Cleaner for years. No second rinse. I don't agree that there are multiple "best" methods of record cleaning. There are only alternatives which are of varying effectiveness. My preference is to apply chemical solution to th...
What's the best way to clean vinyl records?
(Aren't there 583 different threads on this topic?) Call Disc Doctor (see his web site) and ask someone who has been studying this for years. He'll probably suggest some kind of vacuum record cleaning machine and he'll fix you up with the proper k...
Any Allnic H1201 owners out there?
Worldcat, I haven't heard anything that competes with a Herron VTPH-2. I own one. And I make that statement objectively, independent of owner pride. IMO, at its price, it embarrasses the competition. Without consideration for price, to my ears, it...

In the same price range, maybe a few dollars more, is the Herron VTPH-2. I have not heard anything better. I have one and I expect it to be my last phono stage.
Zesto vs K & K phono stages
Right between those in price is the Herron VTPH-2. There's no need to get anything else. The Herron will be your last phono stage.
Rapid pulsing/ throbbing noise
Sounds like motorboating. Probably a bad tube.
Stillpoints LP Isolator Record Weight
Get the Stillpoints record weight. It works great. Then replace your Linn with something good.
Help choose phono stage
Sbrownnw, It is a good phono stage for the money. But, IMO, the Herron is a great phono stage without regard to cost and easily betters those units you mention. The $1,000 budget could address several areas of upgrade. But IMO, the largest improve...
Help choose phono stage
Call Keith Herron at Herron Audio to see if he has any used VTPH-1 units. He seems very good about taking trades. He just might be able to give you a great deal on a spectacular phono stage.
Stand out phono stages
Why solid state? Do you live somewhere that vacuum doesn't work? Are you allergic to glass? Inquiring minds want to know.
Add a step-up or Upgrade
I have not heard anything better than a Herron VTPH-2. I have heard from others that it brings out the best qualities of Shelter carts. Do you think the ML 25S is the weak link in your system? The quality of your system can only be as good as the ...
Stand out phono stages
I have yet to hear anything better than a Herron VTPH-2. Some come close, but "no cigar."
Jelco Tonearn SA750D
I have a SA-750D on one of my tables. It is a very good arm. Terribly underrated. IMO, it is as good as you can get for under three times its price. It's not as good as my JMW-12 using the same AT OC-9/II cartridge. I have never heard the Ortofon.
Recomendation on turntable for less than $1500
I agree with Vernneal. The Project 9.1 put me to sleep.
