Why does the VPI motor thump Have you discussed this with Harry?
effective mass of Jelco tonearms The effective mass including the cartridge will vary with the weight of the cartridge. Put a nude Denon 103r in a shaved-down lightweight wooden shell and that doesn't weigh much. OTOH, some of the larger boat anchor cartridges even need an extra ...
Sage Wood blocks vs Herbies feet for VPI Nomad? BTW, I'm not using them under a turntable, just electronics. But they work well in that application.
Sage Wood blocks vs Herbies feet for VPI Nomad? Try three Vibrapod cones pointed up. Might need spacers below the cones. Very inexpensive experiment. I've had good results using them.
Why does the VPI motor thump The only time I ever had a thump is when the motor cap went bad. I don't have the problem with a variac because there is no turn on / off of the motor, just the switch on the variac. I keep the variac set to 0volts for turn on / off. You don't hav...
effective mass of Jelco tonearms vinylengine.com provides specs for most all tonearms. For me, the SA-750D was very good with both a Lyra Clavis da Capo and an AT OC9/ml(I). I agree that the 750 is better than the 250. The options and quality of the 750 are well worth the price o...
What is a good entry level turntable? Budget?
Why does the VPI motor thump I don't necessarily think the tables are a bad design because they have a turn on / off thump. I usually judge a component by how it sounds when it's used as intended. The thump is related to a capacitor required in the circuit. When used with a v...
Pulled the VPI trigger In that price range, I don't think you made a mistake. What cart and phono pre-amp will you use?
Why does the VPI motor thump String, you're using a SDS. That isolates the motor. No thump. So does a variac and performs the most important functions of a SDS (isolation and voltage reduction) though manually.
Why does the VPI motor thump If a variac or SDS is used to manage the motor, there is no start up thump or pop. I had the pop with both a TNT and an Aries motor. Currently using a variac on the Aries. Totally quiet start up and shut down. I turn on the variac when I turn on t...
VPI SDS exact speed in .... 40 minutes? The half-black and half acrylic platters are for earlier TNT and Aries tables. (I've got one) They use well-type bearings. So I don't think you're discussing inverted bearings. They should be oiled, not greased. Not sure about the bearing on the H...
VPI SDS exact speed in .... 40 minutes? Why speculate? Call Harry. Or Matt.
Back to basics Richard, You haven't really given us a budget to hit. Without that and your current system, it's hard to work. That said, I've always thought the VPI HW-19 III an underrated table. Teamed up with a nice Jelco-based arm and "better" Audio Technica c...
Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link The Herron VTPH-2 is an outstanding phono preamp. It has inputs for both MM and MC. I think it compares to the very best phono preamps. I have not heard it used with a high-output cartridge, but I doubt the performance would be less with a MM than... |
