First in line... That table / arm / cart combo doesn't have any balls? Are you serious? That should NOT be the problem with that combo. I would suggest looking at your downstream electronics. What's the rest of your system?
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Congrats Adeep42. Sounds like you found a winner for your system.
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. Atmasphere is correct. A tube circuit can be designed to be low noise, components can be specifically for their low noise. Noise is NOT a drawback to tube design. And Atmasphere's last paragraph and last sentence speaks volumes! Dead center on the...
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. How can a cartridge be autoloaded when the manufacturer specifies a particular load to voice a cartridge? (Sounds like more audio hooey and snake oil to me.)
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Good for you. Please let us know your impressions and how well it mates up with your cartridge.
VPI, Graham, Koetsu advice please Larryi - that's a good point. The two carts are pretty much on the opposite ends of the listening preference scale. A Koetsu will never sound like a Lyra unless both are parked on the arm rest.
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Look it up, chack. Plenty of posts by me and others making comparisons.
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Quoted the wrong text. It should have been "I'm still contemplating the the plus and minus of going the Soundsmith route or spending a lot extra for something with more flexibility that might suit some future cartridge whim."
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? I was relating back to your previous post where you said "However, it also points out the big dilemma, $3650 for a great pre and future flexibility vs $650 for a pre that is probably well voiced for my current cart." I read that as saying that you...
VPI, Graham, Koetsu advice please M - My opinion is 180 degrees opposite yours. That's why both our comments are opinions. I still think the difference is a mismatch of the cart-to-SUT. That is a critical link and varies greatly with cartridges and SUTs. If that matching is not sp...
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? IMO, the advantage of a Herron VTPH-2 is that there is no need for future upgrades. It is a top performer and can handle input from either low or high output cartridges without modification or front-end SUTs.
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. Impedance mismatch?
VPI, Graham, Koetsu advice please Poonbean, if you're just having no end of problems with the Koetsu, I'd take it off your hands. All kidding aside, I could test it in a similar but different rig. Original Aries (Extended) with JMW-12, but into a Herron VTPH-2. No SUT. I am VERY f...
VPI, Graham, Koetsu advice please It could be a mismatch between the SUT and the Koetsu.
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. My cart sounds it's best at the highest cartridge loading available on my phono stage. AT OC9/II and Herron VTPH-2. |
