MC Cartridges Under $1,000
Though some feel it's system dependent, a lot of people think the AT OC9/II or OC9/III are good matches for JMW arms. But if your system leans toward the bright side, you may find the cartridge a bit aggressive. I like it on my JMW-12 arm, but YMMV.
record storage question
Praggmatic solution.... Don't store them against the wall itself. Put a little space between the wall and the record cover. An inch should be plenty. Then there is no worry.
Phono Interconnect
I've been very satisfied with Herron Audio interconnects. Uncolored, inexpensive and don't seem to have interaction issues regardless of the impedances of the components they link together.
Super Noisy Phono Pre--Help?
Unplug your cartridge leads and report back how much noise was present.
What is your recommendation on upgrading a Linn LP
Upgrading a Linn? Don't waste your money. Even a fully upgraded up to day Linn is still terribly colored and not up to any of the competition. Except maybe an AR.
clearaudio turntables vs vpi
Linn has never manufactured any turntable, regardless of how much modification, that is in the same league as a current VPI or Clearaudio table in the $3,000 or above range. Nothing at all. Not even close. Way too much coloration.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
I use an OC9/II with "infinite loading" on a Herron VTPH-2. VERY GOOD.
Cleaning flood damaged vinyls
CALL, don't email, Duane Goldman (The Disc Doctor). He may have some suggestions and might be willing to mix up some special cleaner to address your special cleaning needs. He has been studying record cleaning for probably 40 years, I doubt there ...
Are Lyra Cartridges Repairable to 2nd Owner?
They can be repaired. Either your dealer is ignorant of the policy or trying to make a quick sale.
What is your recommendation on upgrading a Linn LP
Replace the Linn with a VPI Prime / 3D atm. Nothing can be done to a Linn that will make it sound nearly as good as a modern design. VPI Prime with the 3D arm is probably one of hte better bang for the buck table / arm combos today.
Turntable recommendation for under 6k
With your budget and equipment, I suggest a VPI Prime table / arm combo and an AT ART-9 cartridge. That gives you a great bang for the bud vinyl front-end.That will leave some money to work on other components. Yes, the amp should be next upgrade ...
Turntable recommendation for under 6k
How about some background information? What are you using in the rest of your system? What phono stage?
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Dodge - Please post your impressions of the ART-9. The more information available, the better it will be for those of us looking to step up. From my perspective, stepping up from an OC-9ML/II.
Best Used Phono preamp around $2500
And Yogi, why would I have under-performing equipment in my system? Face it. The quicksilver just isn't in the same league as the Herron.
Best Used Phono preamp around $2500
Yogi - Because I've heard the Herron VTPH-2 in a LOT of other systems and they ALL outperformed the Quicksilver and every other phono stage. In MY zip code, it's called objective evaluation.
