getting into streaming You can pick up an inexpensive I-pad at best buy or Target. Go for it.
Are you interested in the new generation of "old school" design loudspeakers? It was high school graduation time in 1971 and I was invited to a friend's grad party at his cousins bachelor pad. [yes, that is what we called it.] He had a Kenwood receiver, a turntable and those KLH speakers. I had an eight-track all in one ...
Transparency The problem lies in the continuum transfunctioner. The flux capacitor has nothing to do with it.
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus I find loudness depends on the venue. The Joint at Hard Rock Casino In Vegas was wayyy too loud. I saw Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper there and lost 90% of my hearing for two days.
Qobuz dropping rights to my favorites. A pox on their house. I won't tell you to do what I do, but....if I really really love a recording that much, I will see if the LP is available. Not only do you get the recording for life, but a true collectors album as well. Most of my friends that come to listen in...
Please tell me the wait will be work it......my rack For a few hundred bucks you can get a Pangea wood rack with 4 or 5 shelves. If you think you have vibration issues, use footers or an isolation pad. It is ridiculous to spend megabucks on a rack.
Improve sound Go to an audio show. You would be surprised that really expensive speakers can sound crappy in an untreated room. Get some absorption panels and experiment with placement in your room.
High-end-turntables Scams are commonplace these days. Could be anything or anywhere, and online is the easiest way for them. My bank acct. was attempted unsuccessfully [thank God]. Be careful out there.
Steamer upgrade? Follow up follow up Steamer? This is not a forum for antique boats.
I have NOVA V's and I am not happy Lots of people have speakers that are too big for the room they use. Carpeting or hard floor? Ceiling treatment? Lots of ways to alter the sound. Changing cables will only do so much. Kimber 8tc is not bright in my system.
Who says studio monitors are "cold and analytical"? Where is Millercarbon when you need him? All you need to do is buy the speakers that you like the most.
Not sure what to think or do... If you also have any new interconnects or speaker cables, try swapping your old ones in and see if that is the problem. Some brands of cables are notorious for long break-in times.
Too much power? The maggie 1.7 is a fine speaker, but you need at least 150 watts to drive them to their potential. I moved up to the 3.7's and they sound better with 250 watts.
DAC league table I, too, am considering a new DAC. The EISA award for this category was a Musical Fidelity unit that sells for $2199. I have a CD play from MF circa 1998 and it has a way to make even bad CD's sound great. I would love to audition it if there wa...
Vinyl record cleaning I use a Record Doctor with Mofi Superwash. The records sound about the same, but boy, do they shine! |
