Listening to music with loud feedback as a tinnitus sufferer
I am blaming my tinnitus on too many rock concerts and bars with live music.  Mostly it is in the background, but will be brought to my attention by loud music.  So mostly I listen at lower volume and enjoy it more.
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
Go to an audio show.  So many speakers to see, and listen to.Believe me, it is worth it.
Tim Bachman of BTO passed at 71
Being in a rock band never was good for you health.  Touring and such.  Think about all the guys who died around age70.  Allman, Lou Reed, many others.
amp upgrade
Lots of good advice here.another would be to switch out the optical cable for a digital coax.  Optical is good for video, not so good for audio purity.
Was I Expecting Too Much
That is the mark of a retailer actually telling you he doesn't need your business.  Pure and simple laziness.  Go to the next audio show near you and you will hear all of those you wish to audition.  Bring a record or two along.

How about a 3 pound collar?
Turntable weight affects speed
Belt drive players are not designed for extra weight on them.  Oh, they will handle 200 gm records just fine, I mean extra weight.  Something to be said about record camps, too.  If you are seeking smoothness, fine.  For one who wants any "jump fa...
Feel like I'm outta my mind....
Consider the size of your listening space before buying speakers.  Some need more breathing space than others.
Help with hiss
Assuming you have backup equipment, take the amp and preamp out and try your backup amp setup.  One other thing, I had a tube phono pre amp that after 30 min. or so, began to hum until it was unplugged.  And yes, it was well grounded.
Warmer class D amps for magnepan?
Maggie man Wendell Diller says "any amp that doubles it's wattage into 4 ohms will do just fine".  Makes sense.
Speakers sounding dull? MUST READ! The truth about speaker design!
@Nonoise.  Too many snoids on this conversation.
Is It Common For Questions About Gear For Sale To Go Unanswered?
I have this happen on a different item.  I take this as a "I really do not want to sell this " as the seller is no longer paying attention to his ad. Frustrating but do not lose sleep over it.
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
I have the 3.7's and use 12" sealed box sub.  Wonderful upgrade from the planar-magnetic panels.  Plan on spending time on placement, listening position, etc.  Subwoofer settings are crucial to good sound.  What I like about Maggies is they are no...
What's your experience with snooty HiFi salesmen?
Yes!  and I wouldn't go back either.  Same with snooty auto salespeople.  It is not that hard to spend your hard-earned money someplace else.
Are audiophile products designed to initially impress then fatigue to make you upgrade?
Think about what happens when you upgrade.  First impression is "wow, I can tell a difference".  Second, you listen for hours and hours,  thinking "I should have done this before".  After a few days or a few weeks the novelty of improvement wears ...
