Vandersteen 5a's - an upgrade from Vienna mahlers?
I would listen to Sean. The Vandersteen 5a is one hell of a speaker and the Mahler's will never match it in the bottom or anywhere else for that matter. The 5a is one of the finest, most technically thought out speakers in existence. Vandersteen d...
best speakers for Ayre amps ?
Vandersteen. The 3a Signatures grace Ayre's soundroom and match their equipment wonderfully. One of Ayre's primary goals is to not disturb the phase and time issues going through their electronics( by eliminating feedback.)It would makes sense tha...
Ayre or Rowland Amp?
I own the Ayre V5xe and it is truly a wonderful sounding amplifier. However, I don't think it would be the best amp for the Wilson's. I might would consider something like the Parasound JC1's. They have the grut for those speakers. I think the Ayr...
Dreadnaught a Bit Bright?
Good point. I have found this to be true and possibly one of the reasons I found the Parasound JC-1's a little less than totally enjoyable.
Tara Labs Master Gen 2+ speaker cable
Bombaywalla, Yea, that's me. The MG II are excellent cables in their own right but the Decade is a more refined cable. The MG II is a little more lively sounding and does not have quite the liquidity through the mids. The MG II work really well in...
Tara Labs Master Gen 2+ speaker cable
I practically gave away 2 pair of gen 2's a few years back in a mistake. Mine also were clear and you could see the wires. This was an excellent cable and the move to Decade speaker cable wasn't much of a jump ( as compared to the complete superio...
Grounding problem?
Under your turntable, there should be a ground connection and/or a place you could connect a small ground wire from your tone arm to this connection. Anything metal will do. There should be some screw or something on your tone arm base to connect ...
Grounding problem?
Make sure the arm is grounded to the chassis of the deck itself(not the cartridge connectors but the arm itself.) Sometimes that will help.
Dreadnaught a Bit Bright?
After using the Dreadnaught on and off for a few years, I can say I would have never called them bright. It is, if anything, slightly laid back. (It sounds closed in until they warm up a while.) I found it to deliver sound in a very convincing way...
Best subwoofer for 2 channel Hi End system
I totally agree with Swampwalker. The 2Wq is an excellent sub for music and with the "Q" adjustment, you can get it to integrate seemlessly with about any speaker. A pair is better for several reasons. One, it loads the room better for smoother re...
balance and single ended what I heard
When you convert from singled ended to balanced out(using a non balanced circuit topology), depending on which method is employed by the manufacturer, it is possible that it could lead to inferior sound with the use of that connection. In the exam...
balance and single ended what I heard
This just proves there are NO absolutes and most opinions---well, are just that.Noise cancellation is one major benefit to being balanced and most improvements are in this area. To hear what you are hearing would lead me to believe that your equip...
Volume level mystery - can you solve it?
Yea, I know a lot of manufacturers have different ways of implementing this feature. It sounds like the fellow has solved his problem, so that's good.It is really hard to say anything on these forums outside of generic information. I used the exam...
ARC Reference 2 MkII Preamp white noise levels
Tube preamps really do not like anywhere near that low of impedance. You might try asking your amp manufacturer if the impedance can be increased. Generally, there is an input resistor and you can simply substitute another value. Most tube pre's a...
Volume level mystery - can you solve it?
On my Ayre V5x, it has a switch but it doesn't change the levels any really. The sound quality suffers some if it's in the wrong mode. Of course the Ayre doesn't ground the interconnects to the chassis at all anyway.I think it could just be, consi...
