Looking for Amp/preamp suggestions
are you trying to stay under $400 for both amp and preamp? Do you want a remote controllable preamp?
Speaker Question...first post on the gon
Parasound will tell you (at least this is what they told me) that running those amps in bridged mode is sub-optimal, and that if you want the best full bandwidth performance you should run them un-bridged. They recommend "Single Stereo" which uses...
Recommend tube meter
the $8 meter from Harbor Freight works great for biasing amps. If you spend more than that for a meter, make sure it has auto range detection, otherwise it's not worth the extra $'s. I picked up a couple of the HF meters for $4 each off of a sale ...
How many hours per week do you listen to music?
Critical (or semi critical) listening - ~ 10-20 hrs/weekWhile working - another ~20-25 hrs/week.
multichannel amps with individual level controls?
forgive the question, but if you're using a multichannel amp (ie identical amps, identical sensitivity) to bi-amp , why do you need level controls?
DIY tube amps?
too many to name, though maybe someone else has a favorite. I think it depends on what you want to do. TP's suggestion is best. There is a lot of good info, and resources. This can be a real adventure.
HT bypass with Proceed PAV
Does varying input level over the range needed for volume control lead to distortion? no distortion. You're simply using a different volume control.Just to be clear, in the setup proposed by Bdgregory the PAV would drive the amps for the main LR ...
HT bypass with Proceed PAV
you can use any of the analog inputs on the PAV, and plug your pre/pro main outs into that input. When you calibrate your HT, just pick a baseline volume setting for the PAV and any time you go to HT mode, select that input on the PAV and set the ...
Subwoofer repair
if you can open up the amp so you can get to the back side of the RCA jack it may be possible to push it out, depending on the type of RCA jack you have.
Tone arm slow on the drop
I had this same experience with a RB300. It was very slow to drop, although it wasn't so long it was a big problem. It just seemed abnormally long. I just lived with it, as everything else was fine . . .
Is China Forbes pitch perfect?
Steady. There are many many female singers alive (and dead also) with utterly supreme out of this world enough to bring a tear to a glass eye vocal skills.Yes, I agree China Forbes does have a lovely voice though. I agree. Maybe I would say a very...
Help me pick a power amp
I've had many B&K amps and you can't go wrong with them - especially in your budget range. I've also had several Parasound amps and agree with Tommy - the HCA1000 is a good option and can be found in your range. I find the B&K amps to be a...
What is the most analog sounding CD player under $
Meridian 508.24 is one to consider
Heybrook TT2
I had one, wish I hadn't sold it. For the money it's a good table. It can be a bit bright, but that's tamed easily.
Speed strobe recommendation.
I bought one on A'gon, don't recall who the seller was. The strobe disc is cardboard, but easy to read, with 60/50hz, 45/33 rpm. the strobe light is a simple diode wired to a 12vac wall wart. It works fantastic and I paid $25. The diode and wall w...
