Bias on solid state?
also, the Nuvistor is actually a tube, not a transistor.
New to Home Theater
Well here's my 2 cents - based on setting up my own "cave".I assume you're happy with the JC2, and the A21. I would build around that. You may want to allocate some of your budget to buy new/upgraded speakers for your "cave", and leave the Studio ...
New to Home Theater
a couple of questions first . . . why do you want HT in both rooms? and what is your budget for room 2 HT capability?
Will there be any 'Arrow' mark in a Fuse holder?
I find it's harder to be skeptical if there is a rational hypothesis provided that's at least loosely grounded in the physics, acoustics, or material sciences. How a fuse that's conducting AC, especially one that's not in the signal path, can have...
cd storage
I've learned to like the drawer storage. It's easy to search through, and easier on my aging back. Also, uses less wall space, which is an advantage to me vs using less floor space. In my case I purchased Ikea Maalm 6 drawer dresser and installed d...
Will there be any 'Arrow' mark in a Fuse holder?
I think the quote was someone's joke. Fuses complete the continuity of a single wire. There no reason at all fro them to be directional. I've never seen a directional fuse or fuse holder.
Which cost more: your system or your car?
my cars COST cost more (2000 Jag S-Type, and 2002 BMW 530i), but at this point my system is worth much more.
Tonearm scratches
they are pretty normal, and inevitable. I wouldn't worry about them.
What decibel level do you listen at?
Usually ~85 db, sometimes a little louder (88-90), sometimes a little softer (80-82)
Why I like my home system better than live music
I love live performances for the performance, but I can't recall ever being fully satisfied with the sonics - whether it be due to my seat location, the venue acoustics, audience distractions, or the performer's poor mix setting - it's never as go...
Equipment not worth fixing, what to do?
what Entrope and Jedinite said . . . you'd be surprised what they will fetch at auction (especially the P300, though not sure about the Oppo). And all you need to do is package them up for safe shipment.
Parasound HCA-2200II Runs Very Hot
I had a HCA2200 and they are biased for (I think) ~20-25 watts of class A, which makes them run very hot - even at idle. If it's not too hot to touch I suspect yours is running exactly as it's suppose to.
Volex cables - No longer belden???
I bought a batch of them a couple of years ago, and can't really tell the origin of the cable; however they are different in appearance from some I had bought previously that were obviously Belden. In use I don't notice any difference, except that...
Rebuilding old Sansui's
if you use good quality components you'll be surprised by the results so long as you match the drivers and have the right crossover. Parts express sells excellent quality components and they tell you all you need to know to do a decent job of matc...
Rebuilding old Sansui's
I just finished rebuilding a pair of Sansui's - mine were a 12" 4 way design. I pulled all of the drivers and x-over, installed a new baffle and built a 8" 2-way system using a basic single order x-over I built from scratch. I had to stuff the cab...
