Loud hum in one channel
sounds like a phone pre is the issue.
HT Proc/Preamp to Analog Preamp w/o passthru?
Is it possible to run the balanced outputs from the surround processor into one set of the analog preamp's balanced inputs and then simply make sure the volume control on the analog preamp is always set at the same volume? Yes. what volume you cho...
Loud hum in one channel
when you say it moves when you "switch leads", do you mean when you swap interconnects from the table to pre, or when you swap cartridge/headshell leads? I assume you mean the former, and in that case I would suspect a poor connection at the heads...
Rotel RB1080 vs Odyssey Stratos vs McCormack DNA
I run amps older than the DNA1s and have zero issues with them. If you're hearing popping and clicking noises I doubt it's from your amp.One thing that hasn't been mentioned here related to your cabinet situation is ventilation. If it's as tight a...
Jazz at the Pawn Shop. Anyone know what Vol. ?
hmm . . . I started watching this thread with interest in picking up the JatPS. It's turned into one of the more entertaining threads this year though . . .
Bookshelf speakers with the good bass.
Totem Mani-2s have excellent bass ((to ~30Hz) and sound great top to bottom. You need lots of power for them though.
Anyone successful in dealing with Tinnitus?
I'd be curious to hear from other audiophiles as to the 'level' of their affliction. Mine isn't noticeable except when there is no other sound. Music masks it perfectly, but in a quiet room it's there, and in varying degrees I assume caused by wha...
Anyone successful in dealing with Tinnitus?
My doctor told me listen to music - "it will cover up the ringing". This was actually a major victory, because my wife told me the ringing was **because** I listen to too much music ;-) I have noticed that my tinnitus comes and goes with more or l...
Cleaning out my closet
Classifieds are free on Asylum, and there are a lot of guys trolling there for vintage gear (even if in need of repair) and even old parts to cannibalize. If you don't want to hassle with selling then take it to goodwill . . .
ACI Titan subwoofer hookup options
I don't have my manual handy, but recall reading somewhere(possibly in the manual, possibly on the ACI website) that the speaker level adapter had a "built in resistance". The only question is how much resistance? I would like to find out too sinc...
Symptoms of a worn out stylus Benz Glider
thanks, I do have a scope and the stylus is clean and appears to be in good condition. I played around with the table and the Grado, and am not entirely sure the issue isn't the table itself (actually the motor)and compounded by my phono stage con...
Long ICs versus long speaker cables
in my home theater I'm using 30 ft ultra-low capacitance IC's from my preamp to the power amps which sit next to my speakers. My speaker cables are 5 ft long.I'm hardly an authority, but the technical argument I have read says BECAUSE speaker cabl...
What is your favorite guitar solo of all time?
indeed too many to list, but some of my fav's not already mentioned that come to mind are:Duane Allman on Boz Scagg's "Loan Me a Dime"; and Scagg's rythm on the same is perfect.Andy Latimer of Camel - "Ice" (several other Latimer solo's are also u...
Hats off to Seasick Steve
I find his guitars and the tone gets from the to be even more fascinating than is music/performance. I saw him on Jools Holland, and also here. He gets amazing results from crap instruments.
Wiring a subwoofer to monoblocks
I've had 2 different fully balanced amps that I wanted to connect my Rel sub to. 1) Ayre V3 - I called the tech support guys. They told me to connect the ground wire to one of the scews on the chassis. I did and it worked great. 2) PS Audio HCA-2 ...
