Best recording audiophile level albums of 2010
I am not falling for another Newsom CD, sounded like Bjorks twin autistic sister geeze, I wish I had seen your post before I bought my first (and only) Joanna Newsom cd!

Neil Young - "Les Noise"
Have you been Shpongleized?
I had never heard of Shpongle before this thread, though I really like this genre. I ordered "nothing lasts . . ." and received it yesterday. I agree it's great, but I find some of the "eastern music" vocals mildly distracting. This is on first li...
does a subwoofer kill stereo sound?
Regarding soundstage... In my own experience adding a subwoofer seems to perceptually expand the soundstage, particularly the depth. Larry Greenhill has mentioned the same effect in his subwoofer reviews for Stereophile. This is exactly my experien...
does a subwoofer kill stereo sound?
I find the contrary to be the case, provided you have a good sub, properly integrated. The deep bass opens up the sound stage a lot as compared to a stereo that rolls off at ~50hz +, and in no way degrades the stereo separation or imaging.
Transmission Line Bass
the most satisfying bass performance I've heard is from my vintage 1975 Infinity Monitor IIa's. The bass is deep and full without being overwhelming. They are rated flat to 22hz. I still have those speakers but also now have Von Schweikert VR4genI...
Music that really stirs your emotions
I have a some more more . . . Mike Oldfield "Ommadawn" always puts me in a trance, although recently not as deep of a trance as I experienced when I was young (and had some chemical help). Andrew Lloyd Weber - Requiem - especially "Pie Jesu"Verde ...
von schweikert vr 4
the fix would be to replace the Pot. I've had this happen on a guitar amp - the sweeper became dislodged from the shaft in my case (as Ckoffend suggests). Pots are cheap, and not hard to replace. I'd call Von Schweikert before doing anything though.
AVRAK Rotating Gear Racks
I've never seen or heard of them. While I like the idea, and the pics look very nice, I see a few significant problems. Kennyt hit on the cabling issues. The pics of their cabling look great, but I can't imagine it coming out that perfect. I think...
The Orb: Metallic Spheres
I have it and like it a lot (after 2 spins). The jury's still out on whether it's going to get regular play for a long timer. It's nothing like his solo work, nor Pink Floyd, other than the fact it's Prog, and you can hear his voice in the mix.
Happy Birthday Neil Young
NY Warehouse FireLe Noise is awesome!.
What's the objection to Floor Standing Speakers?
I know at least 2 women who subscribe to Tvad's hypothesis. I have always preferred big floorstanders mostly because I'm a freak for deep bass. I own some stand mounts (Totem Mani-2) however and the portability of them is very appealing. Even thou...
opinions on amp for Totem Mani Sigs
I'm not familiar with any of the amps you mention, but I drive my manis with monoblocks/preamp - the amps are rated at 400 w @ 4 ohms, and do just fine. I find it peculiar that your MF amp leaves you wanting unless it's simply much over rated on o...
Most sophisticated and intelligent musician
Miles Davis, Mike Oldfield. I also can go with Mapman's list.
active crossover freqncy for Totem Mani2
that's the one! I recall others that are useful and worth taking in as well since they all have testimonials, but it's best when there is authoritative contribution like Steve McC provided.
