Proof of improvements in audio system sound quality....
@digitalviper  I was only replying in kind to your very funny original post.  No rudeness intended. I repeat:  Post some pics of your system and your will get much farther "down the road" (pun intended) with some valuable responses. Regards, b...
Proof of improvements in audio system sound quality....
@tonywinga  Yes I watched about 10 minutes, will definitely finish it though. I'll bet it set "Audiophiledom" back about 20 years!  LOL.   Regards, barts
Spikes on tower speakers
My speakers are Hartley Reference, yes the one with the 24" woofers (each powered by ARC SS amps running as mono blocks in a tri-amp system). They weigh about 300 lbs each.  I use teflon footers that are about 1.25" in diameter so that I can move...
Proof of improvements in audio system sound quality....
@digitalviper  Is that your Viper?  If so, just wait until you can't drive it properly (Vipers are notoriously difficult) then sell it and buy a real HiFi system.  Of course by then you probably won't be able to hear.  What a conundrum!  Okay if...
Whittling down my choices to a final few pair...
@cwolff09  My beloved bride and I are down to the last few pairs of speakers (I'm rolling the proverbial dice on all of these, going by Internet Opinions I'm a little confused: you and your wife came up with a short list of speakers that you a...
Spikes on tower speakers
How much do these Piega p4L MKll weigh that they don't go through the carpet! Anyway you stated you're not worried about the rug or the floor.  GOOD! Get the speakers placed exactly where you want them. Get some cardboard (two pizza box tops wo...
active crossover recommendation
@sozocaps  I use a Marchand Electronics XM44-3 Crossover.  You chose the x-over points and the slopes.  Those are plug and play modules, so you can change them. Mine is SS, but he also makes tube versions.  You'll find his site very easily. Reg...
Fantasy or reality? Inexpensive solid state preamps that get you 80% there?
@hilde45  Hey there,  Life is too short to worry about tube life, especially pre tubes. You mentioned that you have two "excellent" tube pre-amps.  Why not consider selling the "lesser" of the two and add your $1k to the selling price and begin ...
Do I buy an upscale TT?
+1 @pennfootball71  That Kronos TT I heard at RMAF 2019 was unlike any analog I have ever had the pleasure to listen to.  Completely incredible. Bonus was the designer was running it. Very approachable. Regards, barts
Power conditioner wire gauge? Serious issue
I was having kind of a shitteh day. So, I want to thank you guys for lifting my spirits with this udder (yes udder) BS. Regards, barts
It was 61 years ago today...
The best was The Doors on Ed playing Light My Fire, they were told to change the lyrics so as not to say "Babe we couldn't get much higher" Morrison defied Ed and sang it anyway and that was the last they were on there! Regards, barts
Buying Pet Peeve - Pictures
A buddy of mine went to look at a pair of Martin Logan (relatively large) for sale. This guy has a parrot and the bird’s favorite perch was on top on one of them! Well the bird had crap  all over that speaker! And amazingly the seller had no (tak...
Analyzing DACs
@tee_dee  When you use the DAC as a digital volume control directly into an amp the DAC is lowering the bit depth and therefore taking resolution out of the bit stream. If you want  less boxes then go with an integrated amp, I'm thinking you wou...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system?
@sns I completely agree with your thoughts and am in (nearly) the same boat. I also tend to think that while any of us spend tens of thousands we are also employing many many people.  And paying taxes. The thing that sort of freaks me out and is...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
@sns  Well we haven't met but you can count me in that group. Motorcycles since I was 8 years old, still have first bike that I built, '76 HD rigid frame chopper. Cars too numerous to count in my teens.  And I still have my first "real" car, '6...
