Analyzing DACs
@tee_dee  When you use the DAC as a digital volume control directly into an amp the DAC is lowering the bit depth and therefore taking resolution out of the bit stream. If you want  less boxes then go with an integrated amp, I'm thinking you wou...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system?
@sns I completely agree with your thoughts and am in (nearly) the same boat. I also tend to think that while any of us spend tens of thousands we are also employing many many people.  And paying taxes. The thing that sort of freaks me out and is...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
@sns  Well we haven't met but you can count me in that group. Motorcycles since I was 8 years old, still have first bike that I built, '76 HD rigid frame chopper. Cars too numerous to count in my teens.  And I still have my first "real" car, '6...
The Forgotten
+1 @tomic601  Bozak Concert Grands  OMG not my first but very close to first speaker I had an extreme lust for.  A co-worker had a pair powered by all McIntosh tube gear.  This is pre 1980. They had an upgrade path where you purchase the cabine...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
@limbonner  Rex and Bob Hungerford of Kingrex Electric show off their audiophile-grade electrical service panel.
Speaker of My House…!
+1 @ronboco  They certainly do kick butt...rare to see any Rockports for sale
Dual mono integrated amps
This FAD of putting 2 behemoths on the floor between speakers is just plain stupid. It refelects the spudity of the owners. Pretty strong statement there Mr. Wolfie62. Regards, barts
Audiphile Press: Am I jaded, experienced, or has it declined?
+1 @facten  You nailed it.  As my subscription runs out (I have maybe 2 or 3 issues left) I find that I blow through it, Stereophile, in about an hour and then recycle.  Seems like such a waste. Regards, barts
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
@ahuvia  Take the "flute getting lost" recording to the dealer where you heard your speakers and have them play it on their $100k system.  Listen carefully.  If it is only marginally better then it is the recording.  In that case have the dealer ...
Network optimization for serious streamers
@sns  Thanks for the sharing all of the information you have accumulated.  My system is digital only and I will be taking your advice.  Fortunately while my music room was torn apart down to the studs and being rewired I ran coax cable as well as...
diffuser or absorption panels, which would you choose?

tweaking audio systems with modifications.
I tried to look up maghister to check out his system again and his username comes up as "not found".    ????   Any ideas? Regards, barts
Audio gear, sonic quality when you listen in less (or non-) focused ways
@hilde45  FL - Focused listening -- sitting at focal point, concentrating on music and/or acoustic qualities. I think your first category is actually two and should be split into FLE (focused listening equipment) and FLM (focus listening music...
Can I connect multiple sources to an external DAC
My Bryston BDA-3 DAC has ten inputs, selectable buttons on the front panel or the remote.  Has balanced and RCA outputs. Stereophile Class A (not that that means a thing!).  Not sure how much you're looking to spend...the BDA is $4k. Regards, ba...
Finding (calculating?) speaker and amp impedance
@chocaholic  Thanks.  I married a good one also.  Music lover and doesn't give a hoot about $$ spent on audio.  In fact, she hears things and complains to me "that is not right!". Regards, barts
