Tube Single Ended Triode Questions??
The actual answer to the question is that it has to do with the output transformer. There is a certain amount of DC current you can put through the transformer before it begins to distort, so building amps with parallel tubes gets tricky as what y...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Magfan, isn't that the other way 'round? :)
Schroder sq and the new talea
Cousinbillyl, its always a good idea to give a cartridge a few hours of play to break in! 50-70s hours is common, only after that time would I play with tweaks. You don't want natural changes in the cartridge to create confusion.
cartridge loading
Donaudio, all the feedback I have ever had says that you want to put the best resistors in the loading that you can. Vishay, Caddock; that sort of thing.
Best Balanced Tube Amp To Pair With Meridian G02?
Nightfall, thanks for your comments. 10X10 is a small room; it sounds like you don't need a lot of power. What I would recommend, if you liked our amps, is maybe an S-30, and a set of ZEROs.http://www.zeroimpedance.com
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes?
Mrtennis, *most* transistor amps don't have coupling capacitors.
Does my Pass amp dislike my Meridian preamp?
Bryoncunningham, try rotating the modules back into the preamp one at a time- let it run for 2 days each. If its one of those boards, you will know which one this way.If nothing happens, then the power supply possibility is increased and the idea ...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Unsound, most of the studies I am aware of in this area are so new that they are not published yet. However, one of the people conducting them is a Nobel Prize neuro-chemical scientist. I understand that High Emotion Audio has based a lot of their...
new to tubes
If the amplifier has an output impedance that is low enough, you can have variations in impedance that will not result in tonality issues with most tube amps, as long as the variations are not extreme. For example, a 4 ohm dip at a crossover frequ...
Schroder sq and the new talea
Cousinbillyl, seems like most of your questions are answered but the loading. I think you will find the loading to be not that critical. With LOMC cartridges, the inductance of the cartridge and the capacitance of the cable can form a tuned radio ...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Unsound, There has been testing in the laboratory that has quantified subjective listening objectively. What the testing has shown is that if the sound system violates human perceptual rules, the processing of the music moves from the limbic syste...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Unsound, certainly! I think we can add to that, heat, as well (although I know of transistor amps that run as hot as tubes). We are talking about a very traditional set of tradeoffs when these aspects are brought into the conversation: convenience...
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes?
I'm continually surprised anyone would want tube maintenance issues on a tube piece that sounds so close to solid state. The trick is to run a tube preamp that sounds more like music that it does like transistors :)
how does current work in an amplifier?
A nice thing to do if you have Magnaplanars and tube amps is to back the amps up to the crossover and use a speaker cable that is as short as possible- 6 inches is a good length, and make the connections as tight as possible. This can have a profo...
Does my Pass amp dislike my Meridian preamp?
Bryoncunningham, the fact that it sounds better suggests that someone (not you) has not done their homework... I think your approach here is a good move.If it seems to be OK- you might have the cause narrowed to the computer and the power supply, ...
