Tube Sound Question
Since the tube sound is mostly attributed to its high output impedance (which is why they are described as warm, as most speakers are ported). So, a tube amp is magnitudes more influential in coloration than a tube preamp. This statement is inco...
Sell your $$$ cables and conditioners... affordable LITHIUM is here!
"Thanks for reaching out to Goal Zero! In the specs for the inverter, it is listed as a max of 5% Total Harmonic Distortion."So- about 10x the distortion of an Elgar power conditioner.
Ancient Ohms
^^ +1And you won't be able to damage an amplifier with them.
Inverted Phase Preamplifiers with REL Subwoofers
The absolute phase or polarity of the preamp has nothing to do with how the sub is operating- the latter has everything to do with your main amplifier.

I'm wondering what you mean. Are you simply suggesting use of Y cables for XLR applications versus splitters? That has already been done, and I have reported on it.I was thinking of dual input connections... Another thing to try would be if runn...
When do you turn off the tubes?
Just wondering about the 1-2 hour breaks. We have a Standby feature on our amps. It keeps them lit but no B+ on the power tubes (the driver however still has B+ as the 6SN7s have a much longer life). This helps the amp keep its warmed up quality, b...

OK- I tried this in three applications. The phono cartridge is a balanced source and low impedance. I used the Atma-Sphere MP-1, which supports AES48. At the input of the preamp, this isn't a big deal but at the output it is. More of that coming up...
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other???
The EPC eGaN FETs switch 10x faster than silicon MOSFETs and have zero stored charge. I'm guessing that probably improves sound quality when used in a class D amp. While they are faster its incorrect to characterize them as having 'zero stored ...
Too good to be true?
^^ That will depend on the room size and how lively it is- as far as will the amp drive the MLs, yes it will. In a larger room you may run out of gas; in a smaller and some medium sized rooms it will be just fine. The genre of music won't make any...
Shorter speaker runs or shorter IC Runs...Which is the better set up and why?
Ralph, can you explain why on Earth some designers and makers of consumer electronics go to the trouble and expensive of providing balanced connections (if not circuits), and then don't do it "correctly", to conform to the AES standard? To do t...

Yikes!! Sorry to hear about that!Did you ever see a case where the tweeter was damaged by a shorted output transistor? I only saw it happen if the amplifier was overloaded (in which case the woofer often survived).
Ideally matching preamp output to a power amp
The correct answer is no- there isn't a particular setting that is 'right' because it depends on your system. Just play with the settings and see which is easiest for you to use and which sounds the best- and it might be that the two are different...

That's because there is no need. I've got plenty of scopes but its academic.Just don't put a cap on the tweeter that is larger than it what is needed to cross it over properly, and you won't be able to damage the tweeter when DC is applied to the ...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
This is also confirmed by graph you presented from Stereophile. I am simply trying to tell readers that the high end of a disc is cut 12 dB higher above 2200 Hz. Also that the RIAA playback curve they are accustomed to seeing is for a magnetic (ve...
Shorter speaker runs or shorter IC Runs...Which is the better set up and why?
Decades of live sound work doesn't presume you've heard a good cable. The whole point of going balanced is to get off of the exotic cable merry go round.Imagine a technology where a $100 cable can sound as good as a cable that's $1000/foot. That's ...
