Replacement woofer for Green Mouintain Audio Europa
Replacing paper cone won't help broken voice coil btw. A good reconing service can replace the voice coil and use the old cone. Some cones come with the voice coil.
Atma-Sphere MP1 with single-ended inputs and outputs? Adapters OK?
@parsons Just a FWIW, any SET can be set up (if you see what I did there 😁) to use both phases of a balanced signal. Its easy to do, inexpensive and does not change the character of the amp. By doing it this way there is no buzz or the like. That ...
Preamp recommendations for Quad IIs with ESL-57s
@scrumpymanjack has this Quad preamp of yours been refurbished since new? If not, its in dire need regardless of the condition of the tubes.
the cart or the horse?
Low power amps don’t sound better they just have less power. This statement is problematic. Most traditional amps of A or AB design tend to sound better in lower powered embodiments. In the case of all transformer coupled tube amps its because ...
Replacement woofer for Green Mouintain Audio Europa
The 6 inch woofer is an Aura NS6-255-4A. You might look into a reconing service like Midwest speaker Quite often the parts are available even if the manufacturer has gone out of business.
Atma-Sphere MP1 with single-ended inputs and outputs? Adapters OK?
I think the isolation transformer should have gain volume control and let you get the right gain after the transformer, as the signal will become weak  if no gain increase and that's the reason I give up the way to use Jensen isolation. There a...
Practicality of reversing frequency response curve of phono cartridge / stylus
Having said all that good phono cartridges are relatively flat. Actually any magnetic or moving coil cartridge is known as a constant velocity device, which is to say that their output doubles with doubling the speed at which the stylus vibrate...
component grounding
I recently bought a Zero Zone tube preamplifier.....It has a three prong plug but the ground terminal is not connected. How can they sell this in the USA (Especially Illinois) where in many states,  everything with a plug needs UL approval. Can an...
2 vs 8 tubes in preamp, sound difference?
Why would more of any component be presumed to sound better? Its possible for anything to be too simple to do its job. For example, if there is only a single tube in a line section, you might have a fairly high output impedance, which will be e...
component grounding
I've been zapped plenty of times by ungrounded equipment. I used to do most of my hobby work in my little shop in my basement. Eventually I learned to plug the equipment into an isolation transformer since the zap factor could be unpleasant.
Owners of Carver Crimson 275 -Caution/Warning--Potential Increased Risk of Electric Shock
Being a tube power amplifier we have lots of high voltage wiring besides the power supply.  In case of a high voltage short to the chassis that high voltage and current gets carried by the delicate ground in the interconnect wiring, which is then...
Balanced vs RCA between amp/preamp
You suggest to use transformer isolation and you deny the way to use it.  What is your opinion? Audio Research reply directly that I should use transformer coupled  to connect RCA pre with their XLR only power amplifier. @runwell If you are ...
Owners of Carver Crimson 275 -Caution/Warning--Potential Increased Risk of Electric Shock
I would be willing to bet you do not fuse the AC mains neutral conductor in your equipment. The correct way is Hot from the IEC inlet connector to >> fuse to >> switch... Fuse as soon as possible inside the equipment. @jea48 You ar...
Owners of Carver Crimson 275 -Caution/Warning--Potential Increased Risk of Electric Shock
LOL all of Bob’s equipment doesn’t connect to safety ground, because it’s not needed and there’s no risk of electric shock. All it takes is the switch shorted to chassis and you can have a problem. That could happen easily in shipping. OTOH If ...
Balanced vs RCA between amp/preamp
" The problem with this approach" Do you mean Transformer coupled approach? @runwell No. If you are dealing with a ground loop, the transformer can fix that, but take @ieales' post seriously.
