Push Pull KT vs DHT SET vs DHT PP
FWIW we built a few prototype amps using the 2A3 in push-pull. You get about 16 watts in class A. There are a lot of nuances that affect how tube amps sound. If the amp combines single-ended and push-pull, like most textbook circuit so the 1950s,...
Heat in class A equipment
It depends entirely on how well the amplifier is ventilated. Heat also will work its way from the heatsinks through the chassis so over time the entire amp will get warmer.
Grounding cable gauge size
Ok, but my ears can hear the improvement and my brain can appreciate it. If it can't be measured it must not be?  It reminds me of the age-old topic of power cords not making a difference. I'm not contesting that. And I can easily measure why a...
Turntable Hum
I'll try your suggestions, the only time the hum goes away is when the phonostage is out of the loop 🤷‍♂️ If nothing is connected to the input of the phono preamp, does it still hum? If yes, based on the statement above the problem is the phono...
Amplifier stability with very low impedance, high efficiency mid/tweeter section???
This is simply for a speaker I'm thinking of making myself, not for an existing product.  Once I model it I'll have a better idea of the impedance curve.  @poseidon1500 To prevent the array from being low impedance you can put the midrange dri...
SET Shootout China VS The USA
Shugang has liscened out its facilities to Psvane and Lin Lai to make their tubes INSIDE Shugaung’s manufacturing tool shop. FWIW the Shugang plant that made their 6SN7s burned to the ground about 2 1/2 years ago (so that tube has gotten hard t...
Amplifier stability with very low impedance, high efficiency mid/tweeter section???
Could you explain the part about feedback falling off in the audio band as frequency increases? I have no idea what that means.  Something to do with negative feedback diminishing and thus THD going up? You stated it correctly here. When the di...
Grounding cable gauge size
Thank you and I respect your opinion, but I consider it just your opinion and not actual experience. Its engineering. FWIW I did a survey about this topic a few years ago. What I found was that there were grounding problems in every system wher...
Amplifier stability with very low impedance, high efficiency mid/tweeter section???
But take an ESL, which may be 4 Ohms in the low range and 1/3 of an Ohm at the top. The combination of rising output impedance and dropping speaker impedance cause the amp to no longer give a flat frequency response. You lose treble. @erik_squi...
Half Speed Mastering
Isn't Half Speed Mastering a bit over rated and maybe more of a Marketing thing Apparently not. All cutter heads have resonance issues and that is treated with feedback from windings in the cutter head. But it can still be an issue and by cutti...
Happy New Year to Me, from OL to Triplanar
@millercarbon The arm tube of the Triplanar has internal damping. While you might be able to reduce resonance further, that can also mess with effective mass. @artemus_5 There is a thread on this forum for tweaks of the Triplanar arm. IMO the onl...
Peeking inside a Carver Crimson 275 Tube Amplifier
A little birdie told me that the amps subject of ASR’s testing were, in fact, $600 kit amps--differing in quality from actual units sold with serial numbers. @jbhiller Do you have any evidence to support this claim? I’ve been in the industry f...
Grounding cable gauge size
Too bad though because it really is the great unknown as to the level of improvement in sound quality it can provide. Grounding is really important so naturally it can affect sound quality quite a lot. But I was not kidding that if your equipme...
Changing Turntable to Balanced Output
Have you measured frequency response and phase accuracy ( across the full frequency range ) in these situations ?? Sure! I've been unable to measure any loss of bandwidth even with 100 foot cables. To be clear though that means only up to 100KH...
Changing Turntable to Balanced Output
Do you really believe this. My understanding is that any low signal level cable over 3 metres no matter how whoopdido is going to have high frequency roll off. And what about phase shifts and internal reflections within the cable itself. I find ...
