Yahoo transaction? Western Union? Or just scam

Anyone knows if Yahoo is working with Western Union now? One seller from UK with 0 feedback asked me to pay a third-party "Yahoo Financing Transaction Agent" VIA WESTERN UNION first and the seller will send out the item when he got notified from that "agent" about the payment. That seller claims this is a safe payment method offered by Yahoo and the Yahoo Transaction Agent will hold the payment until I receive the item and if I am not satisfied in 3 days, I can return the item and get my refund back. Sounds perfect, but just can't find any proof from Yahoo's website even though I did receive a payment notice email from a Yahoo account and that email has Yahoo's logo on it, but have heard too much about scams using Western Union...
hififish
All 3rd party transactions sound fishy to me! I came VERY close to getting burned on an eBay deal via a 3rd party it turned out to be a SCAM big time! Hope this helps, and be carefull.
Western Union protects the seller (legit or not) and not the buyer. Once they receive your payment, your money is gone!
You can almost hear it now, the seller yodeling "Yahooooo!!!" with a British accent.
1. Run from this transaction.
2. Report "seller" aka "phisher" to Audiogon management.
Had a similar thing happen to me. I replied: "would you like my social security number with that, as well?" Hit the delete button.

So you already paid?
Go foward. Then I'd like to talk to you about some Arizona Real Estate and a very proffitable brige you can get into at the grounbd floor located in Brooklyn.I'll be waiting.

I had a couple similar offers on items for sale. My banker suggested I contact the FBI. THey are collecting names of these individuals. They didn't want my name, just the names of the perps.
Cool thread. We have hififish, holymackerel, and sailfishben.

Something smells really aquatic here.
Why didn't you ask Yahoo directly if it was offering this type of service? The most recommended way of sniffing out a scam involving a suspicious e-mail from a "name brand" party (whether or not you have current dealings with that party) is for you to contact the name brand party to verify that it actually sent the e-mail. Same goes for a "name brand" party that will play a part in a transaction between you and a stranger - you should contact the third party to verify its involvement

What you described Yahoo doing amounts to an escrow. When Yahoo offers a new service to its users, it usually does so with great fanfare. The fact you could find no information about this service on the Yahoo website is pretty indicative of a scam.
I just fell victim of this scam. Lost $2400 for a Rowland preamp. Audiogon pulled the ad, but i wrote a post to warn others and it never posted. I feel like audiogon should post warnings to help other members, not to just make their site look good.

Well,
Audiogon took off his ad, his name was brandvold1234@aol.com. I know i won't deal with anyone other than a seasoned agon member from now on. I wish audiogon did more to alert us of scams. I think they don't want any bad publicity and just quickly pull the scammers. I emailed them but got no response. I hope there is a way to track the credit card they used to post the ad. They told me a person with a foreign passport picked up the money. I geuss i got lulled into a false security here on the 'gon.

No, sorry for the confusion. Western Union has his passport info from when he picked up the Wire. Audiogon has some info i would assume from his payment of his ad. I filled out a police report, who knows if they will try very hard to solve this problem. I doubt it.

Contact AOL also! hopefully it's not a trial but still they will have his credit card information also..

Good luck..that really sucks!
