Where does your user name come from?

Hi everyone,
I'm curious to know what's the story behind your user name (or Alias)... There are a bunch of people that use their name (of parts of it) like myself, Albert Porter, GerryM5, Esoler...

But where does user name like Cornfedboy, Garfish, Calloway, Tireguy, SwampWalker (and many many others) come from? Any story behind?

Just curious

Yes,I realize a philosophy of pragmatism contradicts itself on its face.
I selected it party to show a disregard for any ideology of ideas over the ideas themselves and for a respect of persons like Thomas Dewey and William James.
A pseudo Spanish-Russian endearment of my husband's celebrating my (pre-diet) progressively expanding weight. Even though now I am (somewhat) thinner, the name remained stuck. (I call him worse things sometimes so I guess "all's fair in love.")
Ok...where is that dear, steroid-turntable-owner, Mr. Psychicanimal?
Natalia
First three letters of my last name are Shu thus shoe, like to think of myself as a down to earth kind of guy.
My nickname is meechie and the 33 is for my former favorite basketball player---Scottie Pippen.
'Satch'is the nickname of a guitarplayer I admired when I was younger, Joe Satriani. Well.... I still like him, but I've come above the age to worship people. I still like the name though...

Michiel.
Foxtrot is the name of an album by Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), it`s one of my favorites.
And we have a winner Rgd, I wish I could give you a price but my 7.50/hr. job wont budge. Sorry for the delayed response, since I dont have a computer at home I'm stuck using the ones at work when everybody's gone home. Thanks Rel, I found the reference in the documentary "Grass", showcasing America's "war on drugs" Funny bloopers of Nixon doing some anti-drug announcements!
I have worked as a truck driver for a welding supply for 20+ years I feed our branch stores with cylinders (oxygen, acytelene, argon, nitrous oxide and no you can`t get any ext. ext.) my haulout is between 250 to 350 cylinders, about the same on my haulback a day. After 20 years thats alot of DAMMMM cylinders. David
My name is Ron, My Parents gave me the name Roni. Back in the 80's while at work, I would always have the Radio or a tape playing. Someone gave me the nickname Rock"n"Ronnie, and it stuck.
Hey, Rgd, you really nailed that obscure lyric!! "No flies on you!" (as one of my Aussie friends is fond of saying).

However, Colitas' explanation did pique my curiosity, never having been quite sure of exactly what the lyric was, nor what it meant, for that matter.

A little checking turned up this illuminating explanation courtesy of Cecil of "The Straight Dope."

Colitas is little tails, but here the author is referring to 'colas,' the tip of a marijuana branch, where it is more potent and with more sap (said to be the best part of the leaves)." We knew with an instant shock of certainty that this was the correct interpretation. The Eagles, with the prescience given only to true artists, were touting the virtues of high-quality industrial hemp! And to think some people thought this song was about drugs.

For the full story see The Straight Dope which also references that great misheard Beatles lyric: "The girl with colitis goes by."
Thank you for your kind words Slipknot1. My deepest sympathies for your tragic loss of such a young companion. I thought I'd share this parable with you (and others who may have had to face a similar loss) that gave us some comfort:

"In my dream I noticed two sets of prints in the sand, one was mine, the other my dog's.
But in times of trouble there was only one set, mine.
I asked my dog why he would leave me in bad times, and he replied,
"My dear master, I love you and would never leave you,
when you saw only one set, it was then that I was off protecting you."

Keep your strength.

Marco
Marco-
My sympathies to you and your family. Our 6 year old Shetland Sheepdog Charli died on 6/5, so my family and I know how you feel.
"12-13-02: Dennis_the_menace
Dennis is my middle name; the menace.......

steve"

And all the time I thought it was "the".
Some turkey had already taken "Jax" though never seems to use the site (one transaction and no discussion at all. Member since 01'). I had the brilliant notion to add the '2'. Jax is my beloved American Staffordshire Terrier of just over 13 years who only just passed away on 6/9/03. Her death leaves my family and many of our friends and neighbors with heavy hearts . I am very grateful to have shared 13 wonderful years with her! Jax 3.6.90 - 6.9.03

I'm a chemist/molecular biologist and in the lab I use pipete aids for liquid transfers. These are made by Gilson and called pipetmans. Sort of a no-brainer to make a moniker out of it, although it's somewhat (hopelessly?) geekish.
Actually, I was quite intrigued to learn, that Subaruguru - one of the regulars here - actually developed these things.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring I know , mine comes from the first initial of my first name added to my last name. YAAWNNNNNNNNNNN.
No unusually impressive or artificial parts in my anatomy. I am a Biomedical Engineer, hence the tag.
Mine is taken from my occupation. I'm a commercial HVAC tech, and subcooling is a thermodynamic term used frequently in my trade. Actually, superheat is the basis for refrigeration, but I couldn't find a way to use it.
When I listen to soothing classical music, I close my eyes and think of enchanting natural settings like the redwood forests of California. This is very much like ET's ride at Universal Studios in Florida. If you have ever walked along that dark path in ET's forest and seen the all the redwood trees and ferns, you'll know how I came up with my user name. Hokey, of course, but helps me forget what's on the news. By the way, I brought back redwood and Giant Sequoia seedlings from California for my back yard. One redwood is now 35 feet high.
My moniker is the title of an instrumental tune from an old rock album(which I am listening to as I write). If any one knows from where feel free to email me. The name reminds me of a leaf gently floating with an eddy. Cheers
Having a unique, quite non-anon name outside a-gon, it's nice just to kick back and be anon at agon for a change.
Oh, I also have another name (a respected gentleman gave it to me) - 6chak - which I like it even better. :-)
I seem to have missed the start of this thread. .......nothing too original-- Garland is my last name and in college I was often called "Gar" or "Garfish". So it was just a nickname from long ago that I sort of liked-- brings back fond memories. BTW, the gar, or garfish is a fast, fierce, predatory fish of central U.S.

Great post by Onhwy61-- one of MY favorite Audiogon names. Cheers. Craig
Fraternity of satellite owners. I`ve had my 12' Paraclipse dish since 1985 and we`re a pretty tight bunch. I`ll go get a pizza dish when I stop caring for quality! Robin
I thought I was one before I met all you guys (and gals ).You have tought me tons and I am greatful.Thank you all!!!!
The first 6 chacracters of the 6 words. Now, some body here gives me another one - 6ch - 6 channels or 6 gates or 6 senses or 6 channels HT audio, How's that for a username! I like it!...

... But I only have 2 ears, and 1 "mind"! And I cannot find my "mind", neither!!!... LOL
Nil is first three letters of my full name Nilesh. 'thepill' was given to me (almost 10 years ago) by a designer at work whom I was giving pain (in his opinion-I was just doing my job!) while signing Engineering drawings for structural integrity....It rhymes and easy to remember.

Everyone involved in this hobby/obsession understands where my username came from.
I just checked up on this thread again, and Loose, I just about feel over after reading your response, I think I went out with her for a while too :)

Come on where are some of the other guys that post a lot around here Redkiwi, TOK2000, Muralman, Psychichanimal, and many more - Some of us are still curious critters!
I had just retired from General Motors and was 51 years old. The TV was on in the background as I was thinking of a user name. On came a spot with Mr. Food were in the end he always says: oooww it's so good. I thought to myself, yes life is good, retired at 51 and enjoying life. Sogood51
