I’m reminded of Kenny Burrell…😁
Kenny Burrell & The Jazz Band / Generation

Julio Iglesias-En Concierto Side 3(C) Charlie Rich-Very Special Love Songs Side 2 McRae/Shearing-Two For The Road Side(CJ-128) Side 1 SQ Audiophile Schubert’s Greatest Hits(MS-7526) Side 2 Rene And Angela-Street Called Desire Side 2 SQ Audiophile SQ Champ*** Makoto Ozone-After Side 1 SQ Audiophile Howard Roberts-The Real Howard Roberts(CJ-53) Side 2 SQ Audiophile Santana-Abraxas Side 2 SQ Audiophile With 5/8 Audiophile SQ recordings not much to complain about(lol). Tough to pick a SQ winner but a $10 OP album that has Audiophile SQ and top level content gets the crown(take that Mofi) Only Charlie Rich had so/so SQ which puts a damper on the great content. Ozone and Roberts recordings are worth investigating if your a serious Jazz fan. Would like to compare a mint/sealed OP Abraxas vs Mofi 1Step. My yard sale OP Abraxas(still had poster) might give the 1 Step a battle |
@sbank @noromance et. al.--you guys are on a hot streak--two bit monsters, roy harper, pjharvey all classics. @slaw, i've tried to get into the mountain goats for years (i probably own more records of his than anyone i don't really like)--he's a very smart guy and an excellent writer, but he just ain't musical, even if the sonics on his 4ad stuff sound good. agree with you on goat's head soup, tho. my picks: cracker, kerosense hat--never loved camper van beethoven, which had too many jam band instincts, but i think cracker is kinda unfairly maligned--they're melodic as hell and capable of the odd classic like "movie star" swervedriver, future ruins--these guys haven't missed a beat in the 20 years since their debut--shoegaze without the wankery great unwashed, singles--i notice this 5-song 12" is going for $100-$500 on discogs--seems like a stretch but it is great stuff |
@loomisjohnson - I like Kerosene Hat. Try these 2 tunes from Camper Van Beethoven. They are most excellent IMHO... Camper Van Beethoven - "Camp Pendleton" from the album - "El Camino Real" Camper Van Beethoven - "Northern California Girls" from the album - "La Costa Berdida" If you do take a listen, let me know what you think, even if you don't like them. They have been perennials on my Spotify Playlist for years. |
@bslon +1 Appreciate your posts being concise and unpretentious. It appears you have a vast amount of 1970's OP classic rock recordings which is somewhat of a weak link in my collection. If possible, adding a SQ rating would be invaluable for me and many others. |
Thanks for the compliment @dayglow. I don’t often rate the SQ unless it’s way better or worse than my average. It’s so subjective, like the previous comments on Rough Mix. Excepting Deodato, what I played last night I’d consider reference SQ, about as good as it gets. Especially Breezin’. Deodato Average +, or 7.5? On my system… |
@bslon - Do you Have either of the albums "Prelude" or the reissue "2001" by Deodato? Just curious. I've loved his interpretation of "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)" since I first heard it back in 1979. Really fantastic, IMHO, and the CTI releases have great sound quality. |
@reubent "camp pendleton" is a very well-constructed song which is so jangly-pretty you almost don't notice how dark and disturbing the lyrics are. "norcal girls" is very cracker-like and also hits you lyrically--i would played it straighter, without the ironic backing vocals and fiddle, but it's a good tune. |
George Benson - Breezin My copy is good, but not superb. A little flat and lacking in bottom end. Probably a late pressing in the particular stamper. Still sounds good and is superb music. I have had this since it first released. Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus Excellent mono recording, excellent music. Sonny Rollins - Way Out West Great music and silent vinyl (as is Saxophone Colossus). I don't know it this was ever available in mono, my copy is stereo. It's a very hard left/right mix. Killer sonics, though. Great album! |
@slaw love Moreland, haven’t heard the new record yet though. Miles Davis-1958 Miles CBS/Sony 1979 Japan press Miles Davis-Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud 2021 Sam Records 10”
