After streaming this, I ordered the lp....
Shawn Colvin "Uncovered"
@mammothguy54 Joel, I really like that Beth Hart Zep tribute. My friend in Sweden turned me on to that recently. Another one to check out is Vanessa Fernandez – When The Levee Breaks. While Beth's tribute is pretty faithful to the source material, Vanessa's is more of an interpretation. I like them both. |
The Cars - Heartbeat City I get ideas of what to play because of this thread. Perfect! A fabulous Cars album, filled with great music and inner details. Pink Floyd - The Final Cut Pink Floyd Records issue. Very quiet vinyl, which is essential to this recording. Breathtaking depth. Roxy Music - Avalon A very early pp issue. Superb musical production (as we all know) with depth of information that seems to go on to the other side of my house. A great way to end the evening last night.

On Pink Floyd, earlier I played a ripped file by one time Seattle band The Squirrels titled The Not-So-Bright Side Of The Moon (ca. 2000 CD). I think it’s brilliant but what do I know? Available on Spotify, apologies for taking the thread out of bounds. |
Just went through many LP’s being sold by a favorite classical seller on eBay. A nice chunk of change, so closed my browser to think about it…..yea right….I’ll probably pull the trigger as soon as I’m done listening to this. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this is an incredible album. Been on my mind all day. Ahmad Jamal - Live At The Montreal Jazz Festival 1985. Atlantic 1986 Damn, it kicks butt. |
Prince and the Revolution / Purple Rain @spiritofradio Nice collection of Camel, they put out a lot of records! |
@slaw Re: disciplined streaming. I know you were half way kidding, I mean, enthusiastic and unapologetic record buyers what we are, right. I tell myself that if I discover something I like on the streamer I’ll take my time and research, ask around, if the vinyl is worthwhile. In practice I’m hardly ever that disciplined though. It may be possible to enjoy the best of both. I think of the regular members here @noromance Brian might have the balance down best. |
@bslon yeah, I like the Bardens era best, but there are some great moments on the later albums as well. Latimer is so good. I think he even out Gilmore’s Gilmore. |
@pkatsuleas Hey, while you’re on the lookout for Camel records, you might also keep your eyes peeled for Caravan (St.Dustin’s, Girls who grow plump in the night, et. al.) & Hatfield and the North (both albums). Might yield happiness similar to Camel. yMMV of course. |
Thanks for the info. I have heard Caravan before, I will investigate again. The first Hatfield has been on regular rotation lately. Great album, could use just a little more guitar IMO, but still great. I have been buying up any prog I find over the past 6 mos. Unfortunately, some are very hard to find! |
