@boxer12 caught that Windy & Carl a few posts back, +1 and a tip of the hat for Blues Control “Local Flavor” which arrived last week.

Been dealing with mundane house maintenance chores so not much record spinning lately.

Took some time this afternoon to relax and listen to some records my wife had before we got married.  All part of the shed find series.

Aaron Parks - "Little Big"

Anyone else have this? I like it... Especially for late night, or early morning listening.

Reubent,

I don't. Who would you compare him too?

Califone / Heron king blues

Never heard any Aaron Parks before now.  Streaming “Little Big”.   Diggin it.  Great Sound.  Cool.  Thanks Tom.

@boxer12  - Who would you compare him too?

Good question. Nothing comes to mind. It's a type of contemporary jazz/rock fusion I guess. But not like any of the jazz/rock fusion I listened to back in the '70's. Just sounds much more contemporary.

@spiritofradio - What you you call it? Do you know anyone similar?

@boxer12 Your description is good.  Contemporary Jazz.   Post Fusion maybe.   Before falling asleep to it (a good sign) I heard a number of rock influences too including Mercury Rev and maybe Yellowjackets and bands like that but it’s more of a jazz groove than rock.  It doesn’t really need to be categorized though, you know.  Good stuff.

I am so often impressed with new music like this but I’m so old it rarely gets much traction in my mind and memory.  I am resigned to the idea of just enjoying contemporary music in the way we used to tune in to FM radio - Without always owning it or even knowing much about it.  There are exceptions that must be collected of course. Plini, Volto!, et.al

@spiritofradio @boxer12

This -> "It doesn’t really need to be categorized though, you know.  Good stuff."

This is a really good record. It's a double LP and it sounds GREAT! Stream it, then buy it on vinyl if you like it...

Aaron Parks - "Little Big"

@reubent

will do

do you have the Hudson self titled double LP from about 2017?   May float the same boat.

Something of a Fusion supergroup I guess with “Audiophile Quality Sound”.

@spiritofradio  - I've never heard of Hudson. I'll try to find it on my streaming service and give it a listen.

BTW, just finally finished building/configuring 2 Raspberry Pi 3 based music servers running Volumio OS. Tried over the last couple of years, but the OS I was using was not very user friendly. The switch to Volumio was a revelation. Both working perfectly now and sound pretty darn good. One in the office and one in the man-cave audio room.

@reubent Congrats on getting that setup going. I sometimes think about upgrading the digital front end of my system but never get around to it. Besides, I really don’t want to incur Steve’s wrath…. Different priorities I suppose.

Hey, listening to Aaron Parks again now and for some reason am put in mind of another contemporary sort of fusion, post fusion, maybe experimental, band, Vels Trio. Not that their music is the same but I believe you and probably @boxer12 Tim would dig it. I have “Yellow Ocre”. It’s more Jan Hammer influenced perhaps than Aaron Parks work. Anyway, thanks for turning us on to Aaron Parks stuff. Really good music.

@spiritofradio  - "Jan Hammer" you say? I'm in! Love that guy. Check out:

Jan Hammer - "Oh, Yeah?"

Jeff Beck with The Jan Hammer Group - "Live"

John Abercrombie (w/Jan Hammer and Jack DeJohnette) - "Timeless"

The title track of "Timeless" is my all-time favorite night-time closer.

@david_ten +1

Welcome (back?).  often appreciate your posts about gear and stuff.  Would be nice to hear about your music more often here on this thread.   We try and keep on the high road.

@david_ten  - Do you listen to vinyl? I always see your post on the "What's Playing on Your System Today?" thread. I know you stream. Do you also play vinyl?

As others have said, would be great to see you over here too...

@spiritofradio @tomic601  Thank You, very much. Heartfelt.

I believe I'd be a major "gatecrasher" since my media, source and my front end system components are not in the analog domain.

This is why I refrain from posting here and why I mostly post on the more agnostic "Whats [sic] playing on your system today?" thread. : )

I do follow your thread and pull recommendations from it.

Does that make sense?

@reubent You beat me to it!  I was busy playing whack a mole with cross walks on the reCAPTCHA board game. : )
