Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Frank Sinatra - Come Swing With Me!. Capitol 1961 stereo

Possibly my favorite by them, after 1st listen.
|
Krauss and Union Station - Paper Airplane
|
Monty Alexander/Ray Brown/Herb Ellis - Trio. Concord Jazz 1981
|
@sbank Spencer - wow, holy ! Never heard the Doors sound better……yowsa…. writing this half way into track 1…..
|
+1 bkeske (Concord Jazz CJ-136). Do you consider the SQ Audiophile level?
|
@dayglow
Well, nothing beats Ray Brown’s Soular Energy, but that said, yea, I think all the Monty/Ray/Herb releases could be considered audiophile quality. Concord Jazz always did an excellent job IMO.

Traffic "When The Eagle Flies"
kinda from the recent box.....
That lp was the only record in my bow that had ticks/pops. Seller wants the entire box back. I ordered the single lp, (all of them are available singly), I'm sure they are pressed at the same time.
So I Frankensteined it
|
@bkeske
Thanks. I probably have 75+ original CJ releases due to SQ/talent and affordability.
LA4-Just Friends CJD-1001(Direct To Disc) is pretty much as good as vinyl gets.
|
Mingus - Mingus Ah Um. Columbia/MOV reissue/remaster 180g 2015, originally 1959

|
Hey @dayglow, I own that one.

Fruit Bats "Mouthfuls"

Fleetwood Mac - Alternate Live. One of the few Record Store Day titles I picked up. This sounds really good so far!

The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Modern Jazz Quartet & Orchestra. Atlantic repress, date unknown, but probably late 60’s per label, originally 1961
Wow. First time playing this on the Treo’s and AQ cables. A pretty big increase in SQ all around.

The Mountain Goats "All Hail West Texas"
|
@slaw I had to do same w my Traffic box set (…. argh…
Chris Isaak - Beyond the Sun ( RSD )….. nice….
|
Joni Mitchell - Clouds. Reprise reissue 1976, originally 1969

Pretty cool you were able to pick up your old friends album Brian
Silver Mt. Zion / This is our punk rock

Never heard an Isaak album I didn't like.
|
Chris Isaak is wonderful!
I recently received a copy of Mingus "Ah Um" that is the Move On Vinyl 180 gr reissue. It's in my stack for tonight.
Now this is a bonus. My wife remembered a box we had stuffed away that is full of records she had from when we were dating. Mostly played on a medium grade turntable (probably conical stylus) but my cartridge/stylus should dig deeper and retrieve the good stuff. Most I have viewed over are VG++. About 60 or 70 albums; Allman Brothers, Yes, Doobie Brothers, Zappa, Jethro Tull, Streisand, Petty, a bunch of others. This will keep me busy for some time to come. SCORE!!!

Yes it is. Been on my radar for a while. In fact, just picked up another more recent solo LP by Mark today.
I figured you would know about American Music Club Tim. Really, there was so much of Mark in those LP’s (actually in all his bands), his solo efforts are very similar, just toned down a bit. But his lyrical masterwork is all there. Something I remember Rolling Stone magazine heaping high praise on him at the time of AMC’s first release.
You should check him/them out if you are unfamiliar, I think you would like it. Same for many here.

Kiss "Destroyer"
45th Anniversary/dbl lp
Ought to be a hoot.
|
Nothing’s on my turntable due to some ham fisted moron sending the tonearm flying across the LP and ripping the Diamond off the cantilever. But the culprit will pay for the damage. Just a warning to all A’goners to never let the member here with the nonsensical handle “Emailists” spin vinyl at your house. He’s a bad seed and can’t be trusted with anything nice.
|
War Dept LP collection curated by parents were all NG-, so ya did did good Joel
|
Brian,
I am not familiar with them but just did a little research. What a catalog of albums they have! Think I'll give "Everclear" a try. Thanks
Silver Mt. Zion / 13 blues

LOL emailists! Welcome to the forum
Joel, Nice find! Enjoy the "new" albums

@boxer12
Think I'll give "Everclear" a try.
Highly acclaimed. Good choice. I have it on cassette. Need to get it on vinyl as well.

The Manhattan Transfer-Vocalese Side 2
Patti Austin-Havana Candy Side 1 SQ Audiophile
Hampton Hawes-Playin’ In The Yard Side 1

Jorge Bolet-Bolet At Carnegie Hall Side C
John Coltrane-Coltrane Plays The Blues Side 2
Wings-Wings Over America Side 2
Mac Davis-Baby Don’t Get Hooked On Me Side 2 SQ Audiophile
Yes, believe it or not the weakest(lyrically/musically) recording played was the best in SQ, just edging out Havana Candy. A very wide soundstage and natural extended treble was a pleasant surprise.

@bkeske Brian, Yum to Ah Um! A desert island disc for sure.
@mammothguy54 Congrats on the treasure trove, Joel.
@tomic601 Jim, you're costing me $$$ on the L.A. Woman. Glad to hear that the Feat live is a winner. A recent sad Feat story...I was winning bidder on "Little Feat bundle" from Norman Maslov's recent livestream of the Coleman collection. USPS lost it :-(

This was the one and only thing that got me excited about RSD this year. I have the bootleg vinyl and it is quite good, but wanted to see how a "proper" treatment would sound, plus I think there's some additional material.
I have another Feat bootleg called Beak Positive that is also good.
I think Waiting For Columbus is one of the best "live" (plus some overdubs) albums ever, but it's nice to hear these "real" performances with nothing added, especially this one when they were at the peak of their powers. I will try to give mine a spin today.

Willie Nelson "Songbird"
2006/Lost Highway

@sbank
@bkeske Brian, Yum to Ah Um! A desert island disc for sure.
Yes it is. Still a bit ‘60’s style stereo mix’, but not too bad. The performance is very good, and recording of the individual instruments still makes me pay attention.
A ‘standard’ jazz recording for sure.
