Soular Energy at my house

Have it on CD. One of the best albums of all time. Ray’s bass on that album is legendary. Almost pulled the trigger and bought the vinyl the other day. Not sure why I didn’t. Expensive, and want to make sure I get a great copy.
Mine is the 33rpm on red vinyl. Pure Audiophile.  There is a 45rpm version......must be fantastic.

Also, the piano is killer!!!
I recently adopted a Kiseki Purple Heart Cartridge and after about 10 hours of break-in and set-up time......
Tonight was Elton John Night: Honky Chateau, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Madman Across the Water.
As it is breaking in, I am becoming more and more impressed. Nice Cartridge.
That Purpleheart had been on my short list for some time, then a fellow member reminded me of the Van den Hul Frog. That seemed to provide more of what I might want at the price range. Having said that, I'm very satisfied with my Sussurro Mk II
Hey Steve. Good on you for helping your friend with setup. How did the sound of the Ray Brown record played there compare to how it sounds on your system? I assume you used the same record, but not the same headshells….
Been watching Olympics. Maybe tomorrow she’ll be ok with watching it with the sound turned off and the stereo on but I kinda doubt it.

Problem with watching tv is, well there are a lot of problems with it all right, but I don’t really pay attention to it and so I get on my phone and shop for records.
Today I ordered a batch of 26 records off my want list from one store on Discogs and made another 3 pre-orders from Acoustic Sounds.

Should I be posting this…

I like the sound of this record “Tone Poem” but there is something different about it.  Not sure what it is.  Maybe the room(s). Maybe digital effects.   Perhaps Jim could say.
James, I actually learned a lot tonight. I’ve been transforming what I heard there, to what my system is capable of. Enjoying the tweeks brother. Probably an all-nighter?
Welcome @starwarrior. That’s a beautiful cartridge.  What did it replace and what did it change?
Turning in after side 4.  Will read about your records tomorrow though.  Good listening.
Frankly, my friend's system sounds better than mine now, so trying to play catch up.
This is what's so great about having a music friend!!!! I love learning, although learning is associated with understanding what's going on. I understand.
Welcome starwarrior! I have the Kiseki NS Blue and it's one of my favorites. I'm sure the purple is even nicer, enjoy!

We listened to Steve Winwood
"Greatest Hits Live"

Interesting concept but it worked famously. Highly recommend!!!
@slaw

Steve, I’m surprised to hear you say your friends system sounds better than your own.  Maybe it just sounds different.  Speakers?
James,

I call em like I hear em.

My system is geared towards a more organic, warmer side

James,

His speakers just disappeared last night
Of course I provided a couple of my Vicoustic Extreme bass panels
I haven't been a big fan of Golden Ear until I heard what they are capable of last night.
Steve, Are they the Golden Ear with the built in powered subs?
Aside:  When I hear good solid state systems (I’ve never owned a really good one) I admire the transparency, linearity, and other capabilities but good tubes are to me by comparison just more human.  I often think that other people with ss gear and high end tweeters can hear better than I can and know more and that their stereos are probably “better” than the horns and lower powered tubes that I like, I admit that.  I think a lot of this is psychological and not just physical.
Steve, I’m pretty much a novice at this and probably shouldn’t even try to comment around here with all the experts hovering but I guess whatIm saying is I appreciate what you’ve done to create a system and that I’m guessing I would probably prefer yours.
James, The Triton 1s have the built in amp.

The comparison from my system to his is interesting and very different. I could live with either one
Steve, Brian,

I don't listen to a lot of jazz. But I checked out "Soular Energy" today, listening while putting away laundry. Really good! Thanks for sharing it......
Steve, Brian, Tom, I’m doing the same while puttering around doing chores. What a fine sounding album. Thanks.
Take the A Train off Soular is sublime…

i am very blessed in my wanderings to hear many fine systems in great rooms with passionate audiophiles and music lovers. I remember when and where i first heard Soular and have been chasing that since….( right now my room is keeping me from attaining parity…but i have a plan ). i seek out sensei i can share listening with, they are not Sunshine pumps….nor would I want them to be….

i have been fortunate to be doing that since 1980. i still remember a friends system besting my stacked ESL because he had a heavily modified Audible Illusions ( is there a better name in Audio ? ) preamp… i got home and attacked my CJ with a soldering iron….ha.
JCarr sent me a tip or three the other day ;-) one can apply to the Hana / FT-3….will advise how that goes…

James - I think i left Tone Poet in California, will look and listen here and comment.

BTW one of the sensei i mention is a very good friend of Joe Harley, they do same listening to each others systems, etc….
@tomic601

You are an aficionado, to be sure.
Terri Garrison - Only Love ( Vandersteen Records 1992 - for lovers of two microphone direct to tape , Tim De Paravicini, Kavi Alexander recordings… )

Lovely mix of blues and spiritual features arrangements and playing of David Lindley

Far as I can tell this is not available to stream anywhere (I tried).  Checked on the price of the vinyl and it’s expensive!
So, you have a treasure.
I would like to hear it sometime.

2021 RSD

This might be the most poorly recorded album ever.   Horrible.  Really a shame ‘cause the guy can be a really interesting guitar player.   He mixed this record himself off a hard disc recording through the board.  Atrocious.   The guitar has no tone and the rhythm section is barely audible.
