I have Rush "Moving Pictures" as an original pp issue. It is so wonderful SQ but I bought the reissue done on DMM process and was somewhat disappointed. Snappy, dynamic and all that, but the timbre and overall tonal quality seemed thin. Quieter vinyl, but I prefer my original copy for the better SQ. Interesting, as Jim stated, in theory it should be better. But, it is what it is. And I know what I like.
Just received my backorder copy of Marvin Gay "What's Goin On". I look forward to cleaning it and then spinning it, later tonight. |

Joel, that DMM Vinyl “Moving Pictures” goes for big bucks online. Word is that MP is not going to get the Anniversary treatment like all their other albums beginning with 2112. I hope this word is wrong and we do get something for Christmas this year, but like you, at least for now, I prefer my original which sounds pretty good. By the way, I think 2112 is the best sounding Rush album. The Digital “Test for Echo” is different but also sounds very good to me, especially the guitars. YMMV of course. |
@flennon, big +1 for “Snow Goose” one of the best records ever made. |
Sometimes I think Rush albums were mastered to sound best on a cassette deck in a 1968 GTO with primer paint on the quarter panels and a Kiss bumper sticker on the back. |
Steve - Eat a Peach going back soon :-( should be easy as LRS sourced….
nice review of Tim’s work with Noteworthy cables - when my reference system settles down I have some needs. |

What I’m sayin’. Same on my Kenwood deck and Infinity speakers in the back dash. If I’m remembering right, I think they had concentric tweeters centered in the ovals. |

Liars / WIXIW Just picked this one up an hour ago from LRS. The record store was busy. It's wonderful to see things stepping back to "normal" again!

Streaming Mike Flanigin "West Texas Blues". This is great Steve. Thanks! Have you heard him live? |
The Geraldine Fibbers / Butch Although this is rather "punk" (with a touch of alt country), Nels Cline played guitar for the band on this album. |

Myrrors / Entranced Psychedelic music from 2016. Love it |
Roy Montgomery / Suffuse Picked up today from a recommendation on this forum. Thanks Puffball08! |
Currently I'm listening to direct to disc to give me an indication of what my system is capable of producing. Clare Teal With The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Leader Chris Dean – A Tribute To Ella Fitzgerald is particularly nice.
|
@boxer12, if you enjoy "Suffuse" look into Windy & Carl's "Allegiance & Conviction" (Kranky-2020)
While you're at it, go back to Roy's early work like "Scenes From The South Island". The 2019 Yellow Electric re-release contains the original Drunken Fish 1995 release plus another disc of extras.
And Dadamah's "This Is Not A Dream" of which Roy composed the music and played guitar. The 2020 Grapefruit re-release contains the original Majora 1992 release plus another disc of extras including 4 singles long out of print.

Mark Lanegan - Here Comes That Weird Chill |
|
James, I've never seen Mark Flanigin live. Only recently heard of him in my music searches. I put him on my Best of thread this year.
Just did a grocery store run and heard part of a song on my local college radio station. Here's the line that stuck in my head......
......" You're spookin' the horses you're killin' me"....
Cool! |

Couple of items I’m using now.... Just got in the more costly version ($79.95) of the Reliable Light M. Fremer reviewed. ( Uberlight 4100 TL ) I’ve been needing a great light and went the weighted base model. Works fantastic, has three light settings and a colored light setting. Stays exactly where you position it. Much better than the overpriced Littlelight. My music friend left me some TM-8 record cleaner from Brooks Berdan www.groovyhi-fi.com to try. So will be using this in my pre-steam regimen. |

It came from the Vibrato. Nothing else. Noticeable slight ticking.
Currently undergoing the TM-8 pre-steam, then another trip to the Vibrato.
Results later........... |
There is really no way to accurately make a judgement between cleaning the same record once with one regime or fluid then go to the same lp with the same regime and a different fluid. Why? Because it is a second clean, which, in and of itself may have a positive effect without the benefit of a different cleaning fluid. So, it's important to keep this in mind. |
Having said all of this, I re-cleaned lp 2 of Dave Alvin "West of the West" with the TM-8 fluid and have listened again. The results....surface noise, maybe slightly by quieter?, but the music seems to be more meaningful. Splitting hairs here but I like it
The difference could be listening to the same lp before and enjoying it, then listening again and tapping your feet, nodding your head, kind of enjoyment. |
My posts on steaming should be a consideration of you who want the best from your vinyl records. |
Ha, I believe you referred to the disc I sent you cleaned w Brooks stuff as “ looks like you used lighter fluid “… I bought a gallon, I like it. The Monrovia store is about an hour fifteen North of me in California - but I hear they are moving to ????? Maybe @bdp24 has intel. |
Rose City Band *"Earth Trip’
This lp is Highly Recommended!!!!
His latest. Want to discover more of his output under two more band names. You should too! |
Jim, you're wrong, I never said that..
You're confusing my posts with someone else's |
I have never used Brooks fluid until yesterday,! |
|
Maybe I said that regarding it’s appearance but not from personal experience until yesterday. |
Could be, heck…. For a brief period I thought it was Monday…. I have been using it for a year, except when the cleaning lady thought it was vinegar for the floors….. expensive vinegar |
Jim,
I only wish I had a cleaning lady. |
