LOL, I have Bill Evans at the Vanguard coming up next.

A couple of weeks ago I was shopping for a new amp and I encountered my first streamer. The owner, John, was streaming VH-1 Storytellers Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson on some $16k Vandersteins. It was excellent. It was good to get out and listen to music different than what’s in my music collection. That’s why I like to come to this thread.
Kim Hae Jung, piano, with the USSR Ministry of Culture Orchestra, Ghenaddy Rozhdestvensky, conductor - Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos 2&3. This is a Jigu Rcords pressing, apparently only available in Korea, but I found it in a used record shop here in the US.
@ctwith3 - weird about your Bernstein collection, and too bad  - I generally prefer Bernstein to von Karajan.
What better way to start the day than with some Judas Priest?  Point of Entry.  This is a Music on Vinyl pressing with a different cover.  It sounds really good, at least on my "B" system.  Super quiet and dynamic with good frequency extension from top to bottom.
Handel;
3 Concerti Grossi
Opus 6 #6 &7
Munchener Bach-Orchester
Karl Richter

Von Karajan conducts Dvořák. Symphony No. 8. Wiener Philharmoniker. London 1965
Well I wrapped up last night with John Coltrane A Love Supreme and I'm going to start tonight with the same album. Can't get enough of it. Nice 1968 repress on Impulse/ABC. Heavy vinyl and a really heavy gatefold laminated cover. The quality of the old jazz albums was the best.
And the SQ is absolutely fantastic.
Karel Ančerl conducts Smetana - From Bohemia’s Woods and Fields & Vltava / Dvořák - In Nature’s Realm & My Home. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Supraphon 1975 Czechoslovakia
Dvorak Slavonic Dances Op 46, 1 through 6.
Bavarian Radio Symphony.
Kubelik
Deutsche Grammophon box set.
Probably from the 70's. Sense a Dvorak trend here.
@flennon

Sense a Dvorak trend here.

😉 just got a bundle of used LP’s from a guy I’ve bought a lot from before. And he always has some very nice Supraphon LP’s available. This time I grabbed a couple Dvořák offerings. This Smetana & Dvořák LP is very nice indeed.

I have the Szell/Cleveland Orchestra Slavic Dances box set, which is also very nice.

Good to see some other classical selections here. @spiritofradio  and I won’t feel so lonely.
Enjoy the discussions regarding everyone's choices. And you can't be accused of being wrong.😉
Martinů & Roussel - Compositions For Cello And Orchestra

  • Eduard Fischer conducts Martinů - Concertino For Cello And Orchestra, Op. 57. Prague Chamber Soloists
  • František Vajnar conducts Martinů - Concertino For Cello, Wind Instruments, Piano And Percussion. Collegium Musicum Pragense
  • František Vajnar conducts Roussel - Concertino For Cello And Orchestra, Op. 57. Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra

Supraphon 1977 Czechoslovakia

Wow, I can already tell, this is going to be a great LP. Great recording.

Not in this thread. 👍🏼
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly. This is a new 180g German pressing. I'm not sure why I even bought it, I have so many copies of this record, but this one sounds fantastic. It's flat, quiet, and has good dynamics. After getting a few crap brand new records recently, this one is a pleasant surprise.
you can't be accused of being wrong

I think I'm probably wrong a lot of the time.

@bkeske, Brian, I would have been skeptical about records pressed in the cold of the Eastern Block. Are they allright? Is Supraphon a thing?

"Concepts I'll ponder
And concepts I won't ever see. . . "
Michel Martin conducts Debussy - Epigraphes Antiques & Roussel - Le Marchand De Sable Qui Passe. Orchestre De Chambre Michel Martin. Cybelia, Musique Française Du 20e Siècle Series. Unknown release date, but going to guess the 80’s. French release

Oh man, this is fantastic.
The time and place in this country captured and played to you in an attitude that just rings true.

That is wonderful music indeed.  A good recording?

 I’ve found Supraphon from Czech to be pretty darn good, with one qualifier, they seems to like to release quadraphonic records in the 70’s, and some…some…of those seem to suffer in stereo playback. Others not. But other than that, the pressing and recording quality is really pretty darn good.

Another is the Hungarian pressings of the Hungaroton label I have picked up. Those are really superb, at least the ones I purchased.
@spiritofradio

Outstanding.

That is wonderful music indeed.  A good recording?

Yes - Relayer. Early Atlantic pressing from 1974. I was big into progressive music back then and Yes was probably my favorite band at the time. Saw them on tour promoting the album and it was one of the best concerts I had ever seen.

Music sure can bring back some great memories.
"He rises and begins to round,
he drops the silver chain of sound

... and ever winging up and up,
Our valley in his golden cup,
And he with wine which overflows
to lift us with him as he goes.
Til lost on his aerial rings,
In light, and then the fancy sings."

lines by George Meredith added by Vaughan Williams as preface to his score of "The Lark Ascending"

It's a soft warm summer evening here in the Pacific Northwest and the music suits it fine.
+1 on "Relayer" . Not everyone’s favorite but I love it. Do you have the Steven Wilson remix? @tgilb

@spiritofradio

I’m sure you have, but if you have not, listen to Hilary Hahn play The Lark Ascending. I believe my favorite version. For all who say Hilary is too technical, and does not play with enough emotion, she sure knocks that composition ‘outta the park’. IMO.
@spiritofradio. I don’t have the remix but it sounds like I am going to have to look into it now. Thanks for the tip.
@bkeske,

...listen to Hilary Hahn play The Lark Ascending. I believe my favorite version

oh yes it’s wonderful, i hadn’t really heard that line about her (not saying much - i don’t really keep up on classical intelligence or criticism) and it never would have crossed my mind about any of her music that I’ve heard. I mean, she plays as if she’s playing for me. Really.
That said, I think this is my favorite "Lark Ascending":

Not sure I can say why except that maybe its just simple. Pure. Superb.

@tgilb,

A worthwhile pursuit.   A nice way to get it would be part of the box with 5 early albums in it.   They are favorites.
@spiritofradio .That 1-Step pressing of Fragile must be amazing.  Great choice!
Ella & Louis - Analouge ProductionsTom Petty - WildflowersBlack Crowes - Amorica
Yeah, It’s pretty cool. Fanciest record I have. I can almost touch the notes floating around my room.

And thanks for giving me the idea to replay some Yes - long overdue around here.
