For me its the first or very early LP's of: Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South" Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer" and, Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
I’m lucky, the transformer in my neighborhood is actually in my back yard, thus, I have a feeling I get cleaner power with a pretty direct connection to my meter.
Only 4 homes on our transformer (we were in the last 60 of 70,000 to be repaired after this winter’s ice storms?) but I think the noise must come from much further afield too. Ours is the only one of the four to have air conditioning. All these things factor in I’m discovering with now having much more sensitive and revealing speakers. Isolation made an obvious improvement. Shunyata Research Hydra yielded an additional increment (more consistency). I’m still on the fence about the 20 amp dedicated line, it sounds the same as the regular plug circuit. Someday I may try reworking the ground on the dedicated line to see if that does anything.
Im sure you are correct about the ‘further afield’ part. There are numerous houses off the transformer behind me. I know, as when it trips, the whole side of the street, and street behind me, goes dark. Lakewood is a very dense urban community.
Now, my electrician was doing work on my box when running underground to my detached garage about a year and a half ago and shook his head. ‘This ain’t right’. Of course, it’s a 100 year old house with a breaker box, an old fuse box, and an AC unit not hooked-into the panel correctly. One of these days I’ll have the whole box reworked, and think about dedicated lines to the rigs. Some day.
@bkeske I’ve received more varying opinions and seemingly subjective advice and direction from electricians in a field that seems like it should follow harder rules and objective principles. However, I’m told by folks, who are certainly more knowledgeable than I am, that a dedicated line for your rig should stay separated from everything else and that it’s ground should extend separately all the way to its own ground rod.
Upon looking at your systems page, seems to be a fairly new housing development.?
Nope, Lakewood is an old urban city attached directly to Cleveland proper. For many years, and perhaps still, it was one of the densest ‘residential’ cities east of the Mississippi.
James, I’ve heard the same as you, and I think that has some validity. Perhaps easier to simply spend on a power regenerator instead. But that ain’t cheap either. Regardless, my service (panel) needs reworked at some point, as my electrician warns of potential arcing. As I’m in the business (but not an electrician, just hire them), I’ve seen worse, but that isn’t a reason not to correct it.
Just three houses on our transformer... good clean grounds, tight connections in the box, replace old breakers are a some inexpensive DIY if comfortable and qualified...
I loose count on the reference system but it’s 4, amps and subs consume 2, 1x analog and a server w LPS, everything else w SMPS / digital is on another line w Furman.
working on cold fusion top Quark power for my next upgrade...
Tír na nÓg - A Tear And A Smile. Chrysalis 1972 Promo
A somewhat obscure Irish acoustic duo from Dublin. Have stayed together over the years. Their last release in 2016, a live recording. Bought this at Moles Record Exchange years ago in the mid-70’s. Actually pretty good SQ on this. Enjoyable, even if it gets lost in my rack.
Neil Young 'Harvest" Just got this reissue, had to listen to it again. Really nice!
Stevie Ray Vaughan "The Sky Is Crying' AP/QRP Stevie was such a special person and musician. Awesome music. And this issue sounds out of this world. Little Wing is just jaw-dropping incredible.
Pink Floyd 'The Division Bell' 20th anniversary double vinyl edition. Spectacular in both the music and SQ. I went to bed with my jaw still dragging on the floor. I mean, WOW!!!
Kiss-Alive! Side 3 SQ 4.3 Mary Macgregor-,,,In Your Eyes Side 1 SQ 4.3 Little Junior Parker-Driving Wheel(Reissue) Side 1 SQ 3.6*** Mike Wofford-Plays Gerald Wilson Side 2 SQ 4.6 Joe Jackson-Blaze Of Glory Side 2 SQ 4.6 Rosemary Clooney-Roses Sings Bing Side 1 SQ 4.3
*** Another example of a poor reissue. Not assuming the original 1962 pressing is even near audiophile level but I bet it is listenable. On a positive note "Blaze Of Glory" and the Mike Wofford recording are outstanding in both performance and SQ!
@Mammothguy54, “Little Wing” just the best isn’t it. @slaw the second (and last) Dust album, “Hard Attack” with the Barbarians on the cover, is even better - I think. Do you have it?
