@boxer12

BTW, your "Tiger Rose" album cover looks almost as beat up as mine 🤙. I really like that album from Robert.

A sign it was played a lot over the years. Of course, today, they are all in outer protective sleeves. Didn’t seem all that important way back then.

It is a great album, and love to hear he and Jerry play off each other. A rare glimpse of their true relationship being ‘in sync’ for years.

Mark Knopfler-Local Hero 1983 OG WB

This is certainly not an "audiophile" remaster, but I am really enjoying this record that I have heard many many times. I don't think its anything unforgiving as much as it is more enjoyable to listen to better pressings that accentuate these speakers resolution.

Tuned up my skis today.  Heading to Mammoth Mountain on Tuesday morning, returning at the end of the week.  I'll miss the vinyl, but hey, got to ski!

Ben Webster meets Oscar Peterson - Acoustic Sounds/QRP Verve reissue.  It sounds like you are in the studio with them, especially the sax.

Dave Mason - Alone Together Again  I preordered this a while back and it arrived a couple of days ago.  So happy to add this to my collection.  It's like going to a concert where the songs are familiar, yet different than the studio album.  However, this is done in high quality studio fashion.  SQ is excellent.  Bass is well pronounced and tight, and kick drum hits you in the gut, repeatedly.  Dave Mason sounds as good today as he did from back in the day.  Highly recommended.

Brian (bkeske), Glad you're enjoying the Pere Ubu album. BTW, your "Tiger Rose" album cover looks almost as beat up as mine 🤙. I really like that album from Robert.

Brian Eno / Music For Installations (Finishing this up from last night. It is a massive 9 album box set)

Post removed

The Small Faces - S/T (1966 Decca) from the pile from Germany. Gave them all a US clean today.

Little Feat-Time Loves A Hero 2018 Speakers Corner RE

Without getting into a long, wordy review of the Zus, I'll touch on what I perceive as the finer points of my findings.

The speakers that I have owned or auditioned in my return to hifi in the last few years have been normal efficiency and pretty neutral-ADS, Audiovector, B&W, Maggies...These Souls are anything but normal or neutral! Resolution is like nothing I've heard. Like all the reviews say, they are "lively" without being harsh or fatiguing. Only downside I can find so far is that they do tend to make me not want to listen to some of my older, original pressings and favor audiophile remasters.

I've been streaming the Respighi Pines of Rome James, very enjoyable. It doesn't hurt that it plays to the strengths of my new (to me) Thiel 3.6 speakers. The guy I bought them from is into classical and has been turning me on to some stuff also. I bet that recording is a lot of fun on the Klipschorns.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Angel Dream. Warner Records 2021

Been having a blast today playing with placement of the Soul Superflys.

Miles Davis-Kind of Blue 2021 UHQR

Roland Kirk-Blacknuss 2020 Pure Pleasure

Diana Krall-Live in Paris 2016 Verve

The John Coltrane Quartet-Ballads 2020 Impulse Acoustic Sounds Series

Enjoying the Zus more with every spin. And yes, I got help carrying them up the stairs!

Wow, you guys are super helpful! I appreciate the pointers on getting started with classical.

Jim, I will be interested in hearing how your experience with tube rolling goes. I have been focusing on other areas of my system and haven't even given that any consideration to be honest.

I am glad you guys are enjoying the Cros. I thought it was outstanding.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Pictures At An Exhibition

1971/1980 MFSL Reissue

Joe Jackson - Night and Day ( Intervention Records Reissue ) imo stunning improvement in sonics…

@big_greg @tomic601 Played my Rhino copy of Crosby’s If I could only remember my name a couple times and also played the digital in anticipation of the 50th’s arrival.  So far still in route.  This will be a rare duplicate record in my collection.  Much expectation and anticipation. It’s such a great record.

Now playing:

Friendly reminder - time to play the Cardas sweep / degaussing LP…..

thanks to Steve @slaw for this wonderful tip / gift…

Ok, this may be presumptuous but ok, if you’re looking to try some new ‘classical’ music try this and see how you feel. Doesn’t need to be this (very expensive) issue. This is beautiful music. There are several very good recordings of it in addition to the above. Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa is very good and might cost you $5-$10. Ok, this is very well known music so I’m not trying to reveal some hidden gem or anything - might be familiar already.  Even so, I suppose this could be described as “accessible”. Personally I feel there is nothing to be ashamed of by digging on this. I find it very pretty but also quite moving. YMMV.

Trumpet and Organ - Music of the Baroque - Ronald Thompson and Emma Lou Diemer ; Water Lily Acoustics WLA-WS-13

Thanks for the heads up...found one on line and will give it a try... appreciated

Thanks to @bkeske I have learned to post photos on Audiogon from an IPhone SE.  It should not have been this difficult.

;-) Joel - My take is between GAIN2 and 45 rpm, MoFi is hitting the right notes..

So glad you are enjoying the new TT ;-)

Dire Straits- Love Over Gold ( MoFi 45 rpm # 4884 out of ? )…

Telegraph Road dynamic contrasts are striking, rich, vibrant….

The Beach Boys - Surfer Girl, Analogue Productions remaster.

Danny Gatton - 88 Elmira St., MOV reissue on clear vinyl.  Entire album of music is excellent.  Interesting, though, several songs SQ is subpar while many others are outstanding.  Obviously from different recording takes.  Very well worth owning this.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Sky Is Crying, Analogue Productions/QRP.  Outstanding album.  Little Wing by Stevie is one of the very best covers of this song.  Just mesmerizing.

Dire Straits - S/T, Mobile Fidelity Gain 2 Ultra, 45rpm 2-disc set.  I have had this for about 1 1/2 years (#6538 out of 10,000) and last night I heard things on it that I have not heard before.  Depth and layers that went on seemingly forever.  I went to bed with my jaw open, nearly hitting the floor.  WOW!

@sailmed Thanks so much, I will check that out.

Speaking of ;

Pierre Cochereau  (Organist of Notre Dame Catherdral)

Vivaldi , Bach Concertos for Organ and Orchestra

Pro Arte Orchestra, Munich

Philips PHS 900-183

Well done...the organ is ethereal.

Jim, try ‘postimage’. What I’m using, free (with a limit you probably won’t reach), and easy enough to use. You can then resize as you desire when posting here.

Greg….i went back and forth between wide open and 220…. w virtues and vice w both….It’s a very transparent tube phono as you know…..

Tube Rolling is next, last time i did that w clear top RCA was NOT rewarded at all, i have some ideas…

Best to all

Jim
