Led Zepplin: I figured England isn't THAT far away. |

I agree with the Popes, but I'd include their "Holloway boulevard. Also I'll play Van's Irish Heatbeat, Christy Moore, Susan McKeown, and the Pogues and Shane MacGowan's "The Snake". |

I'll be playing multiple albums (vinyl of course) by Ryan's Fancy. If you're not familiar, this group consisted of three gentlemen who immigrated to eastern Canada from Ireland back in the '60's. They were together for 20 some years before going their separate ways. They're legendary in my part of the world, and although the group is broken up, they are all still active in the music scene down east to varying degrees. The evening will be enhanced with some Irish beer, my favourite being Harp. Slainte. |
IT'S HORSELIPS ---THE TAIN AND HAPPY TO MEET AND SORRY TO PART!!!! |
I'll tell you one CD I will not be playing. A few years ago when I was new to Amazon, I went on looking for a CD of great Irish music with all the Favorites such as When Irish Eyes are Smiling. I picked one with the title Danny Boy that was reviewed with 5 stars. Upon playing it, I was surprised to find out that it consisted solely of 24 different versions of Danny Boy played on every conceivable instrument you can imagine. It was a great CD to threaten the kids with as punishment "If you dont stop being obnoxious, you'll have to go to your room and listen to this entire CD" |
Kevin Burke, "Promenade." To say nothing of my own Irish banjo stylings... |
I have the misfortune of having to go out on that day.
Nothing like dodging the "once-a-year Charlies" in the bars:(
Now if it was Robbie Burn's day! |
Shane Macgowan's Popes - Across the Broad Atlantic, Live on Paddy's day New York - Dublin |
I'll be too drunk to hear.
Now THAT'S drunk! |
Some by the Pogues, Enya and a mid 80's 12in extended single, composer Billy Bragg's "New England" performed by Kirsty MacColl (with U2's Edge). On DVD Sarah McLachlan's Fumbling Towards Ecstasy: Live and Dead Can Dance Toward the Within |
|
Thin Lizzy. Jailbreak. Van Morrison. Astral Weeks. |
and I'm a sucker for a good version of "Danny Boy." As am I, and we all have our favourites ... and for me, the one that gives me a huge rush of emotion is on the Telarc SACD-60571 Erich Kunzel - Cincinnati Pops Orchestra called "A Celtic Spectacular". The tenor John McDermott takes my breath away; and when the dynamics kick in on: "But come ye back when summer's in the meadow" ... I'm in a sweet, green place. Regards, |
Patrick Street, 3 Irish Times 3, a great album "In a Town this Size", Delores Keane & John Prine, she's a prize Of course Van..."there stands the glass" might be fitting off his new Pay the Devil album. I heard he just played the Ryman auditorium in Nashville to kick-off the new release. anyone go?
raise a glass lads!!!!!!!! |
I'll be playing"Thank God I'm Not Irish" by the Highway Five or John Valby has another one of my favorite irish songs. |
James Galway and the Chieftains in Ireland, on green vinyl of course. An excellent recording. |
