With an AMT tweeter, they should sound much more airy, open, detailed... Wonder what the MSRP will be on those... I am itching to order the Linton... are you still impressed? You say get 90% of the Harbeth signature sound, but are you getting 120% of the Dentons?
There are two Dentons 80th and 85th. The 85th remains a mystery and is barely commented upon in the audio forum world. I really want to hear about them as well as the Lintons.
"I really want to hear about them as well as the Lintons. " Same here.I have the Dentons 80th - wonder what you are getting with the 85th. the few reviewers I have read talked about more bass, but no one has actually really have given a good description of the difference between the two. My pointer hovers frequently over the order button.
I’m interested, as I’ve been kicking around the $10k price point:
Used Focal Sopra 2, Dynaudio Contour 60, Revel F228Be, used Revel Studio 2, Paradigm Persona 3F, Salk SS 9.5, used Monitor Audio PL 300 II, used Wilson Sophia 3.I’m currently leaning towards Dynaudio Contour 60, having heard them last year at an audio show, liking their tonal balance, and due to now seeing used sets in the $6k price range. Some of the above models are just so "in your face" when playing any manner of bright recordings, of which there are a lot. The Contour 60 seems like it might be easier to listen to for extended periods.
This Elysian 4, imo, really channels some Legacy Audio models in appearance and design.
Now, Wharfedale also recently launched their new EVO series at RMAF, and a number of those who heard them were quite impressed with them at their price point.
Music Direct is advertising a "risk-free" home trial of the Elysian 4, so that is very tempting.
With a height of 70 cm, the Elysian 2 is located between standmount and floorstanding speaker, while the 120 cm high Elysian 4 is a full-grown "floorstander". Both models work with the specially developed Air Motion Transformer in the high-frequency range UPSers Login
I'll find out by the middle of next week if the Wharfedales and as good or better than the Focals, to me in my room. I had 3 sets of Focals, all with the Be tweeter, and they all would cause a slight ringing or irritation to my ears at semi loud volumes. All 3 were in mostly different setups and 2 different rooms.
I had the Sopra 3s which (despite being great sounding speakers in the showroom even with my same gear) never sounded right in my room (similar to what you said, and were bass-shy despite good amplification etc.). I heard the Wharfedales at the Capital Audio Festival and they sounded very easy, airy, and open... I’ll be very curious to hear your impressions. Thanks!
Well, for me, that Elysian 2 just looks way too much like the EVO 4.2 to pay that much more for it. I would have to compare them directly, and there would have to be a noticeable difference to pay that much more.
@phastm3 Yes, please do report back. Given the success of the Lintons and the EVO line, you'd think these need to be very special to justify the price differential.
so far they are great, but i made the mistake of replacing my DAC at the same time i replaced the speakers. I have an Audio Mirror tube DAC on it's way to see make sure that the Topping D90 DAC that i have now isn't a limiting factor. I'm not saying i think anything is limited, but you never know what you don't know.
So you've had them for a month. Any feedback? A friend bought them on the strength of an audition at an audio show, so I'm not sure I trust his judgement. He's also been on a buying spree these last few months.
My friend bought a pair of these and loves them. He already has the AG Duo Mezzo's so they MUST be good if he's still listening to them with those bad boys sitting in the same room.
Old sounds. It seems that it is out of fashion where people love EDM, baldi's basics. However, these sounds are always something that makes me feel at peace.
