USBe Perfect Hookup??

I have one, and was wondering how I can use it between my external hard drive case type "B" (box) and the input for the drive which is type "A" on the rear of my player. The unit has a direction arrow, so I'm not sure if it can be turned around and still function. Any help??  Thanks

@koestner I was under the impression this device was more of a filter or enhancement for the actual audio signal. Not for storage drives as you intend to use it. I might be wrong though and it couldn't hurt to try.

The directional part is tough to get around though. Not sure how you can make that fit your system, and running it backwards seems like it wouldn't work as well or maybe at all.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I have no place else to put it now that I have a streamer/DAC/Pre all in one. I recall a member Ozzy did this. I was hoping he would chime in with his thoughts.

OP: If you don’t need it anymore, you probably can sell it.

I asked Walter at Underwood HiFi, the distributor for the USBe Perfect, if the directionality mattered.  He said just try reversing it.  Nothing will break.  He was right.

The USBe Perfect is a USB signal regenerator.    It is not a filter or enhancer.  Ozzy reviewed it here. Conceptually, it is similar to the Smoothlan Ethernet Regenerator.

Initially, I got my USBe Perfect to improve the SQ for streaming from my modded laptop.   It made a substantial improvement. Less edgy, less grainy.   But soon thereafter, I switched to a dedicated streamer - which was far superior to the laptop.

Out of curiosity, I installed the ’Perfect’ in the USB output from my streamer to my DDC.  The SQ improved once again - but subtly.   More refined, more natural, more spacious.   Every once in a while - with all the improvements to my digital chain - I remove it - thinking I don’t need it anymore.   I always put it back in.  YMMV.

@steakster It seems you have tried it in reverse. That would be a very simple hook-up indeed. "Nothing will break", but did it pass a signal? If so, did you notice any sound difference. Of course I should get off my "A$$" and just try it, but I'm worried about breaking it.

Still a great product that I use from my Hard drive to my Lumin X1. Do a search for the appropriate adapters.

Here are a few on Amazon.

@ozzy Thanks for posting. Have you by any chance tried using it in reverse. It's a very easy hook-up that way, but I don't know if it will even work. What are your thoughts?

I would think that I probably did try it in reverse direction at some time, the fact that I don’t remember means it didn’t affect me either way.

I say try it that way and check out how it sounds. You just never know. But I still think you should try an adapter (they are cheap) because if you’re like me, it will always bug you if you don’t.

@ozzy You're absolutely right. I think I'm a lot like you, and I found a 3 pack of adaptors on Amazon for only $8.00. Two of the 3 are just what I need and will be delivered tomorrow. Thanks for your help. John

You’re welcome!

BTW, I just noticed that I am using an adapter too! So perhaps it does matter the direction.

OK, so the adaptors arrived and they hooked up easily. The sound is fantastic. Although I thought it was fantastic before that as well. At least it's not doing any harm, and I figure it's better there than in the box. So, everyone was correct, and thanks for your guidance.
