Wow, good catch, @lewm! I stand corrected. That is certainly interesting that Dynavector made that change.

Unless I miss my guess, cleeds you are talking about the DV507 Mk2. The DV507 requires a hole for the vertical shaft; it is not a surface mount type. So in that way it is unlike the DV505. But since you have tweaked my interest, I will double-check my facts.
EDIT. I am back here after having consulted the Dynavector website. The info on the DV507 Mk2 states: "A fixing hole with a diameter of 29 mm is needed to install the DV507MKII on the turntable board. The distance from the centre of the fixing hole on the arm board to the centre of the turntable spindle should be 226 mm." So, it is not surface mounted, requires a "fixing hole". If it were surface mounted, I would own one. |
52Tiger, Fair point about the cost of the named surface mount tonearms. I guess the least expensive conventional pivoted type would be the Dynavector DV505, which although long discontinued can be found on the "pre-owned" market for ~$900 to $1100. The Viv and the RS Labs are underhung tonearms (alignment so that the tip of the stylus does not reach the spindle). This type has no headshell offset angle, either. |
