The Good Stuff

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. --  Duke Ellington

This purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post outstanding examples of the Good Music.

So do I.  I just have an American bias, just as you have a European bias.

True, but virtually the rest of the entire world has a European "bias" on Classical Music .

Of course they will go to great American Orchestra’s that come to Europe,

but seldom will go to the USA .

Almost every American true lover of classical that has a few bucks , does go to Europe .

but virtually the rest of the entire world has a European "bias" on Classical Music

America is an 'exceptional' country, so this is not surprising.

Cheers

Very true rok , only America could have given the world  rock & roll !

You may be confusing Rock & Roll with 'Rock'.  Two entirely different things.

THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS

Nonesuch 1988

Wikipedia:  The Gospel at Colonus is an African-American musical version of Sophocles's tragedy, Oedipus at Colonus. The show was created in 1983 by the experimental-theatre director Lee Breuer, one of the founders of the seminal American avant-garde theatre company Mabou Mines, and composer Bob Telson.

I was introduced to The Gospel at Colonus from its airing on PBS (a DVD was later released but no longer available). The story of Oedipus set to gospel music is irresistible. I saw it performed live in the 1990's, with some of the original cast including The Blind Boys of Alabama. It was one of the most memorable performances of anything I've seen.

@mspot

I have a copy of the DVD, but I prefer the CD.  I actually have two copies of the CD, just in case I drop one, resulting in permanent damage. :)

Our Governor, at a press conference immediately after the incident, spent the entire time talking about the 'bravery' of the police.   Now, he claims he was 'misled' as to the actual events that took place.  But you know, normal people don't want to hear about the 'bravery' of cops when 19 children are lying dead.  That should not be the first thing out of his mouth.  Just goes to show you how shallow and unfeeling some people are.  They recite the same political nonsense without any sense or appreciation of time, place or circumstance.  Like robots with a shorted circuit.

The cops:  A big cowboy hat and a gun does not make you a hero.  Action does.

Healing Tide by The War And Treaty. TWAT (oh my ;-) are actually Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, a Gospel duo. This wonderful 2018 album was produced by another Christian, the great Buddy Miller.

They will be performing at the upcoming Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland Oregon on Saturday July 2nd. Taj Mahal will be on stage the following day, but I believe without his partner on his new album with Ry Cooder.
